Sako Hunter is my favorite stock I’ve used to date. I have a classic on a vanguard and like it just fine but anymore I order the hunter. That’s what I plan to order for the barreled action I have on the way too.

Those stock are very different. I like the Hunter style, but I like raised cheekpieces and a tight radius pistol grip with a palm swell. I've got a pile of them on Howa 1500, Remington 700, Ruger 77, and Weatherby V2s. Not the lightest or most slender McM stock, but they work well for me.

$250 action in a $700 + stock? I'd have to think long and hard when there some very nice rifles available for a grand..
Actually been a long time gripe with the Howa actions has been a decent factory stock.. can't stomach the Hogue Rubber stock.

Scotty, Not sure if you’re wondering about the width or length of the forend. I can tell you that The forend on the Sako Hunter model is one of the slimmest in the McMillan line, the only other stock that’s close is the Hunters Edge/Compact pattern, which is as slim, but shorter. I prefer the ergos of the Sako Hunter to the Hunters Edge as it has the Monte Carlo style comb, more closed grip, and palm swell. I have one on my Tikka Superlight and it’s about perfect for me and my son who also uses it.

Wish I had seen that satin walnut Mountaineer stock before the barreled actions sold out.. I'll know where to go from here on.

Anyhow, any thoughts on stocks? I have them in sporters to bart 2b. Friends have them in #4 Brux. That’s all it will take but is fine with it. High quality rifles as far as I’m concerned and I couldn’t care less that someone thinks a McMillan is too expensive for it. If these shoot as well as my other vanguards it will get a mcmillian. Since photobucket changed I don’t know how to post pictures but I’d be happy to text them to you when I get back home. I won’t give you some bs about not taking pictures because I know what my stuff looks like.....lol. That could be the stupidest thing I’ve read on the fire in a long time. I know what my daughters look like too but I take pictures of them.

I've never been interested in photography, so I just don't do it. My Wife takes all of the pictures for the family and I'm good with that. I have around 80 rifles installed in McMillan stocks and I don't recall ever suggesting that anyone should not buy them. I have a lot of rifles and can't justify the expense of installing McMs on all of them, so I go with a variety of other options on my lesser rifles.

Sweet! And a nice weight considering the small hole in the barrel. My BBl'd action won't be here til next week and definitely won't look as nice or weigh in as light, but it'll be a fine shooter. Congrats.

Thanks for posting. Looks like a great stock. Did you take it off another rifle? I expect to pick up my action and stock on Tuesday. Will be interested to see how the weight compares.

I ordered a Sako Hunter for mine last week. The fella at McMillan said 4-6 months.
Taylor, that rifle looks great man. Looking forward to setting it up.

I'm looking forward to setting it up as well, though I'm not really doing anything more to it until after hunting seasons are over. I might scope it with what I have on hand and shoot it but I'm not expecting great results. The barreled action fits a little too tight in the stock for my tastes, so I know that'll have an effect on my groups. I'll take it to my GS probably in January after the late season cow hunt my daughter has, and have him cut the barrel down to 18" and thread it for an adaptor so I can use my suppressor and still keep the overall length of the rifle where I like.

That sounds like it'll be a wicked combo. I am looking forward to setting the little bugger up. I'd love to grab one of the 4.5x18 Bushies and mount it up.

A lot of Howas come stock with them. They are on the heavy side, but seem to work pretty well.

do i need a gunsmith or i can do it myself? They are drop in stocks. You shouldn't have to do any smithing. In a worse case scenario you might have to do a little sanding or dremel tool work, but that's not likely.

Those are the stocks that I replace as soon as a rifle equipped with them comes into my possession. I can't think of a worse stock currently being installed of commercial sporting rifle. In fact, I dislike them so much that if hunting for a rifle so equipped was my only choice, I'd forego hunting unless I needed the meat.

I don't care for them either, but the several I've shot, all shot well. I definitely like the vanguard stock a lot better as far as factory stocks go. For now, my bbl'd action is going into an unidentified fiberglass stock I had lying about for some unknown reason. Definitely feels better to me than a Hogue.

Been playing Where's Waldo with the Griptonite I ordered from Weatherby. Shipped 9/5, went to DC, then NC, then Harrisburg, PA; now is "in transit to the next location". Check your map; NC is farther from Jefferson County, WV than either DC or Harrisburg. Methinks the P.O. is run by squirrels.

Picked up my barreled action today, stuck it in that stock I had lying around and am quite pleased. Weight = 7.25 lbs.
Gotta get dies and cases and we'll see how well that combo works.

I received my used griptonite stock from Numrich's and the barrelled action from Brownell's earlier this week. The action is great, weight around 4.75 lbs.
The used griptonite stock wasn't so good. Had a logo on the side of the butt reading "Delta Waterfowl". Lots of wear, which is expected, but a big ass logo on the butt was a turn off. I sent it back to Numrich's today. No logo was mentioned on the web page. Weight was around 2.5 lbs btw. Going to look at other options including Boyd's.

Gotta get dies and cases and we'll see how well that combo works. I like my Redding dies a lot. The seater is easy-peasy to set. Been partial FL sizing for the Barrett. Going to use the Starline brass I have for this one at first. It holds somewhat less powder than Hornady, but seems otherwise fine. Weight's not an issue for this one, whatever it ends up being. Got three Howas now. Really like their simplicity and quality of construction. I see they've started bringing in some SS ones again.

So. Did anyone pull a 6.5 outta the LAW/Banser stock for their new 6 cr, that they now must sell?
I have the stock, has a 243 youth vanguard action in it.
Trying to chase down a lwt howa 6 5 bbld action, been tough.

I don't know what the differences are between a Howa 1500 Lightweight and a V2 Compact, but I did see that Reeds Sports in Walker, MN, has V2 Synthetic Compacts in 6.5 CM advertised on GB for $479. I've never bought anything from Reeds Sports, but they have an A+ rating with nearly 60,000 transactions on GB.

I was this close to buying one of these 6CM actions, but instead, decided to go the other way and thin the Howa stuff from my herd. Which leaves me with a new and unused Hogue full-bed stock in ghillie green for Howa short actions. I have read this thread and saw the hate for Hogue stocks. I'll agree and say I thoroughly dislike the fairly flexible, pillar-bed plastic stocks that LSI packages with Hogue rifles. But I've been told Hogue has never shipped a full-bed stock to LSI. The full-bed is a totally different animal, with a very different feel. I've personally gone back to back with this and the Vanguard S2 Griptonite stock, and I like the shape of this better. I think the difference comes down to the shape of the pistol grip, mostly. Anyway, here's what I think is a good option for sale (yes, it's me selling it): https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/15259412

Maybe I will go 1 of those ways. Also have seen stainless whole rifles fairly cheap, not the short #1 contour, but perhaps worth the weight penalty...

Lucky you. My Griptonite (the second one) showed up Friday. 37oz! Total package with rail, SS 6x42 in “Horn” rings is 9lbs 4.6oz. No problem; this one’s for fun, not mountain climbing. If it’s a real shooter, I can always steal the stock off my Alpine, but still the FC at 6lbs 7oz with scope will be tough to beat. Pretty nice setup for $400 minus the optics, although the $249 Walmart Special Vanguard .243 still holds the record if you can ignore the slow twist.
What fresh Hell is this?

I received confirmation and the McMillan should be here tomorrow or the after. Order some rings and bases for it as well, along with dies and some ADG brass for the works. I’ve got an SS 1x6 and a 3x9 I can put on it. Not totally sure which direction I wanna go just yet. That 1x6 is pretty danged nice.
