Anybody shooting the 45 TSX at .22-250 velocities on deer sized game?
My wife’s tang safety M77 shoots them well and I am kicking around having her pack it on a couple hunts this year.
Hoping to hear some real world performance reports. Any info on terminal performance is appreciated. MV, range, shot angle, game body size, etc. are all nice pieces of the puzzle.

I shot a smallish whitetail buck using my R#3 223 with the 45 TSX. at about 100 yds.
In one side thru rib, thru chest, thru off side rib and lodged under the skin.
Dead deer.

Yes they will work.
I find the 55g TTSX to be more effective,
And I am able to load it very close to the same speeds as regular 55g loads.

gotta ask. Why are ya'll using 22's on deer? Wants it for Wifey. Mine uses a 243 with 80 Barnes TTSX So do grandkids

Why? Deer are rather easy to kill with well placed shots from 22 caliber rifles. They offer high velocity and low recoil. Surprisingly you really don’t need a magnum cartridge in 30 cal to kill them effectively and quickly.
My middle son will start hunting at 6 next fall. He is a little guy, but tough as nails. He will use either the 223 with 75bthp or a 300blk with 125 nbt.
I personally have killed 5 deer with a 22-250 and 55g vmax. Not a huge lot I know, but enough to convince me. They were opportunistic kills made while coyote hunting late deer season

I think you could fill a 110 car unit train with the deer and antelope killed with .22 center fires in Montana every year. The right bullet in the right place turns out the lights as fast as anything. I just have never shot a bullet this light.

I have always heard velocity is key to making TSX or the like work well. My son shot his first deer with Winchester 64g PP. They worked horribly. So what velocity would get them to work properly?

When hunting with my .223 (5.56x45) I use Speer 70 grain Semi Spitzers. Never had a deer survive one yet. (I'm one of those "Dance with what brung me" guys.)

When I was hunting more with the .22-250 it was before I started handloading. I shot 55g remington softpoints because the were $9.99/box and they worked. Didn't own a chronograph but would guess they were going somewhere between 3400-3600 out of my 22" barrel. The only deer I have seen shot with a 60-65 grain soft point (I cant remember if it was a Sierra 65 or a Winchester 62 as it was my buddy's rifle) was with a .223 out of a stubby AR. One and done on a young muley at 100 yards. I don't know the velocity but would be pretty mild I am sure.

Yep. I've seen exactly zero difference on deer with well-placed shots with 22 cals (which is rather easy to do because of the lack of noise and recoil) compared to 243 or 270 or 280 or 30-06, and several other cartridges. They all died very quickly, and none went very far.

Deer shot 4 times at an average of 100 yards. 2 in the lungs, one in the liver and one broke the front leg and deflected down taking hair off the brisket and into the dirt. It was at an angle that if it had penetrated the chest wall it was inline with the heart, but it turned ~90 degrees after hitting the leg bone.. Bullets didn't appear to expand from the look of the wound channels, but also didn't exit. We had it processed so didn't find any bullets ourselves. The deer stood for quite awhile and it wasn't until blood started coming out of his nose did he wobble and fall down.

Shot placement trumps! I will take 22 in the right spot over bigger in the wrong spot every time.

Not the 45, but the 50 grain TSX out of my wife's Ruger has killed a lot of 200+ pound hogs and several nice deer.
The lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!
