CLACKAMAS CO., Ore. – Firefighters are being told to disengage with a wildfire burning in Clackamas County on Thursday, and instead help evacuate citizens on their way out.
The news comes just hours after Clackamas County Sheriff's Office expanded Level 3 "GO" orders to include Molalla, and put the nearby towns of Canby and Oregon City under Level 2 "Be Set" notices.
Clackamas Fire said they are changing the way they are fighting the fire. For now, crews are being told to stop engaging the fires and instead focus on helping with evacuation orders.
Officials added the change is due to an increase in fire behavior. According to Clackamas Fire, the fires in the county are growing and there is a chance they could burn together.
Fire officials said their priority is to make sure firefighters are safe. Crews are being told to go to safety zones near the fire.
First responders in Clackamas County are holding a press conference at about 3 p.m. well to get to the nut of it, several that use to be frequent posters on this forum, are right in the path of this, and are cinched up ready to go. which is a lot more important than a couple of teenagers pizzing on each on the innnet.

That would be from the fire coming from the Wilhoit area. The Santuam chit, wilhoit and riverside fires could be coming together. I don't know. Very bad.

Local Fox affiliate is saying 500K people are under evacuation orders. Good news is they're letting people back in to the fire near us. There's another fire across the valley that damn near burned out an old co-worker. Fighters stopped it next to their barn.

Smoky this AM noting a small fire (200 acres as of this AM) maybe 8 miles over the Cabinets near Troy. The sky was pretty clear this evening.

I was on my way home from the state fairgrounds with some rescued farm animals when I got an alert on my phone saying that the town of Canby was just put on level 2 evacuation alert. Pack up and get ready to leave. That was just over an hour ago. The fires that have burned over more than 900,000 acres in Oregon this week crept closer to Portland and its suburbs Thursday afternoon and early evening. The Clackamas County communities of Molalla and Colton were under Level 3, or “Go Now,” evacuation orders. Sandy, Oregon City and Canby were at Level 2, indicating that residents should “Be Set” to evacuate and should prepare to leave at a moment’s notice. The area is affected by large wildfires burning in both Marion and Clackamas counties. Clackamas County fire officials are anticipating extreme fire behavior that will cause the Beachie Creek and Riverside fires to merge. Firefighters were being re-positioned into safer areas so they will not be directly in the line of rapidly changing fire conditions. Multnomah County is not under any evacuation orders. Still, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler issued an emergency order Thursday night. That will close city parks and other outdoor properties, establish evacuation sites for people who may be displaced because of fires and give city officials more power to ask people experiencing homelessness to move if they’re in threatened areas. The emergency order runs through noon on Sept. 24.
