Driving to work on Ft. Carson when I heard of the first plane on the KILO 94.3. Ross Ford told his cohost Mo (Moreen) to shut up the joke wasn't funny when she reported the first plane. Watched the second hit the tower live on a small B&W TV that someone had put in the break room when I got to work.

Working on a condo just North of Harbor Springs, MI. The mason came inside the building after returning from a parts run and told us that something was going on in NY city. I had keys to the adjoining condo, which was finished and furnished. My coworker and I went inside the finished unit and turned on the TV and watched for a while.

FWIW, the weather that day and place was exactly like the weather is where I'm working today, just a few miles away from that condo - clear, calm and beautiful.

I was Captain on a ship assist tug in Valdez Alaska. Seen the first plane crash into the WTC and thought it was some sort of huge mechanical problem with the aircraft but after the second plane hit it was apparent that was not the issue. We received a call from dispatch to assist the two tankers in port at the time to get underway asap. A korean air freight 747 was not responding to air traffic in Anchorage and was thought to perhaps be heading for the Trans Alaska Pipeline Terminal in Valdez, this proved to be false. A lot more security restrictions and requirements were levied on the maritime industry post 911.

In Central Eastern AZ. Getting ready for work as at that time of year I think most of AZ is same as PDT, a few hours later than back east.

Seem to remember listening to the radio? KNNB, out of Whiteriver. Might have had the TV on, but seem to recall hearing about the first plane on the radio. Growing up back east, when I heard a plane hit one of the towers I thought,"man the weather must be REALLY crappy, those towers are not really on a flight path to any of the major airports".

Flipped on the TV and saw the weather conditions and knew immediately something was up. The saw the second plane come in.

Bastids,

I was immediately pissed as their earlier effort with the rental truck in the basement had failed. This one didn't.

Fuggers, that's all I'll say today.

I was at home and had just gotten to sleep coming off a graveyard shift. when my wife came in, sorta freaked out and said a plane had crashed into the WTC. I got out of bed and watched when the second plane came in and hit. I said to my wife someone has just declared war on us and my guess it's the Muslims. Damn! I hate being right. I didn't get much sleep that day and wasn't at my best at work the next night. Thank God it was slow night. FWIW, I'm still pissed.

41st St., between 3rd Ave and Lexington Ave. BSing with my partner while he smoked a cigarette on the sidewalk. Saw a plane go overhead very low. Turned out to be the second plane to impact.

I'm in Bedford county, Somerset county is just west. (Shanksville is 20+ miles)
Many of us have ties in both counties, they were once all one county.

Had left my midnight to eight job, got in a semi and drove to Mechanicsburg
to load diesel fuel. Running with an old friend, we had the radios off, chatting
back and forth.

Got to the loading rack, and the guy came out and mentioned it.
We knew nothing, so he had us go in, they had a TV on.
Both towers had been hit.

We loaded, and as I pulled out of the way, I heard that a plane went down in Somerset.
Went inside for the paperwork and mentioned the new news.
Another driver went white, he lived in Jennerstown. Knowing news, he was
worried about his home. He was actually about as far from Somerset as the crash.
Just farther west.

100 miles from home, I was concerned we wouldn't get back.
2 tankers full of fuel, we had to go through 3 tunnels on the Pa Turnpike.
They could have easily parked us.

Cops everywhere, they were routing every truck along the pike
Waking them up, checking them, making them move.
We weren't bothered. (Stupid really, we could have been set to drop those tunnels)

But them screwing with the sleeping truckers still pisses me off.
Phookin towe lheads bomb us,
The official response, phugg with truckers just trying to sleep.

Even today, I have to prove myself every few years to keep my license.
Family history to before the US existed.
Yet we let Muslims drive around with impunity.

Camped at 11,000 feet in the Maroon Bells W.A. hunting high country mule deer.
Sure was quiet for a few days, and then someone came to camp and told us of the attack 3 days after.

I was in New York City. Specifically midtown/Times Square. Heard the first plane hit from the street and watched the 2nd one hit from the corner office in the high rise where my office was.

Don’t have time to type a full narrative of the day, and lots of things stick with you from something like that as you can imagine. But the one that always chokes me up is recalling watching the F16 fighters circling manhattan providing air cover the rest of the day while escorting my wife across Central Park after her first day as a school teacher. It was eerily quiet and those jets were the only real sound you could hear.

I was a semi retired consultant/evaluator for several Govt. agencies. I watched it at home and got on the phone
to see where I could be of service. 6 weeks later I was working as a contract firearms instructor helping to prep folks for deployment.

Posted in the other thread also:

I can remember it like it was yesterday. Driving to work, thinking how blue the sky looked. Not a single cloud to be seen. Then it came over the radio that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Got to work and we turned on the fuzzy, no antenna TV in one of the break rooms and watched the Towers fall.

The emotions I felt are very real to this day.

Shock, sorrow, confusion...

But most of all, white hot ANGER!

I called in to the shop to see what was going on. My immediate senior officer (Allen West) filled me in on what he knew.

It was surreal. We knew we would be taking a little trip to the Mideast.

Allen West the politician? I thought he was Army?

Yes he was Army. He was an artillery officer.

The Marine Corps has an Army artillery officer serving at each Divison, and/or Force level HQ. At least in my days. Allen West was ours at II MEF (II Marine Expeditionary Force). He was the Fires Officer, and I was the Fires Chief. So we worked side by side.

I was watching Fox News like a normal morning, when a special report broke in about a jet plane that crashed into the World Trade Center. It was assumed to have been an accident, but there was talk about it possibly being intentional terrorism. Then I saw the other plane (I believe it was shown live) crash into Twin Tower No. 2, at which point there was no longer any talk of an accidental crash. Then, after a little while, to my astonishment, first one, then the other Twin Tower, came down exactly like the controlled demolitions we've all seen many examples of on TV, right smack into its own footprint, which till then had been assumed to be possible only with a great deal of expertise and precision preplanning, which fact was heavily commented on by the crew reporting on it. Gradually, however, all such talk disappeared, and the official line replaced natural speculations about controlled demolition based on common knowledge up till that time and what we all just witnessed.

I was in the Sea Tac Marriott preparing to run a meeting of 30 industry execs. It took a long time to get home with air traffic shut down, but not nearly as long as the two Air Liquide execs that had to rent a car and drive to Houston. On the other hand, my wife was in the wilds of Oregon looking at a property for us to purchase (outside of Drew, Oregon). She said it was like listening to the War of the World (and we didn't purchase that property).
