I have come across two Smiths I’m interested in and I’m curious what the going rates are in your area (s).
One is a six inch 14-4 in .38 Special with a Patridge front.
The other is a 53 in .22 Jet.
Both are what I would describe as pristine. No boxes or paperwork. Stocks appear to be original.
Thanks in advance.

Not much help, other than I paid 600 for a 53 and that 14-3 SA, each, NIB. That was a few years ago.
Id say the 53 for up to 850 and a 14 might fetch 700.
Online probabably adds 200-250.

I forgot, I sold the 53 for 1250. But it was NIB, never fired. Had the inserts and 6 rounds with it.
Still have a 53 shooter and it was 750.

I sold a LNIB 6” 53 with inserts a few years ago for $1000. I sold the 6 boxes of ammo that came with it for either $75 or $100 a box.

Assuming a standard trigger and hammer and service stocks, a pristine M14 with no box should bring $600 and quite possibly $650. Add another $50-100 if it has the target stocks which are going for way over $100 by themselves these days. Anything below $600 for one in pristine condition qualifies as a very good buy, $650 is a fair enough deal for buyer and seller with neither getting screwed, $750 would be a pass.
Folks seem to be asking a hell of a lot more than these prices, like $800 up to the low-mid 4 figure amounts, but they're trying to ride the current bubble and from what I'm seeing they aren't selling at lot at those super high asking prices unless it's some truly rare or unusual specimen.
Fellow I know found a standard M14 recently for sale by a guy who inherited some of his father's guns and was asking $600 for it. The new owner was showing it to me, forget the dash number but it was late 70's vintage and it had some minor wear here and there, still 95% or better, but the buyer convinced the seller it was deeply flawed and offered $400, the seller let it go for $450. The buyer definitely stole that one.
I haven't followed 53's nearly as much so my ballpark estimate covers a wider park but checking gunbroker auctions with actual bids are between $1100 - 1500. Lots of sellers wanting $1800 up to $2500 to start.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

The 14-3 would bring $750 ish in my area. The 53 jet is hard to say, I sold mine with box, inserts, and the very rare 22LR extra cylinder for $1750. Look very closely at the forcing cone/lead area on the Jet they are know to erode quickly. Ammo is hard to find, PPU used to have ammo, but not sure if it is still around. For best accuracy you need .223 bullets, not the normal .224 stuff that is easy to find. The flame and noise from one of these is impressive to say the least.

H110, 2,400, 4227 or whatever arent needed. I use .224 cast bullets, simply because the requisite .222 and .223 jacketed bullets do not fit the throat, along with slow fuel, create the accelerated forcing cone agitation. With the inserts, it shoots on par with any k22, but a PITA. Another caution is primers: the Jet at full frontal wants to flow into the charge hole. Smith chambers are high polish. A stainless brush on a drill etches them enough if you get setback.

Years ago I owned a 53 and, even using all the "technique" of the day, it was just a PITA so it went down the road.
Conduct is the best proof of character.
