The title says it all...mostly. I have an excellent condition (like new) Marlin .38 Special M1894 CBC Cowboy Competition rifle with a nice figured buttstock and the original box and papers I am thinking of selling. I can't find any recent sales online to give me an idea of a fair price. This was a limited production item and is a really nice rifle that I just don't use much. What would this be worth?

May want to check with SASS.net. I think that’s right. May need a membership or find a member to list it on SASS classifieds. That would be a prime site for a sale, would be a good place to inquire.

I picked up one used several years ago that had been slicked up by a well known CAS smith. I sent it to Errol Case in MO with checkering templates I drew from high grade Winchesters for him to execute.

Don’t know what they’re going for. I’m out of town. Next week I’ll post pictures.

Just checked with37th Ed Blue Book which shows the CBC at 100% for $975.

Here's the one I mentioned with fleur de lis checkering by Errol Case in MO. Here's his link http://casecustomgunstocks.com .

It has a couple of dings from usage, metal is 100%.

It had been tuned by Jim Bowie, CAS shooter and smith Here's his link http://cowboysandindianstore.com/index.php?main_page=about_us

I don't know what it's worth. With the checkering, probably over a grand.

The SASS crowd would be your market.

Thanks.

That checkering did sorta spruce it up a bit.

Any more ideas on yours?

Checking with my son, who actually owns it now, if he wants me to try to sell it over at SASS.net Classifieds.

He just gave me the green light.

I'm going to ask $1,200 with the action job and checkering, if that helps you with yours.

This one just has the one small ding on the left side of the stock that could be steamed out and touched up with Tru-Oil, of left as is. If used in CAS, it'll have even more dings, just gives it character.

Sold quickly on the SASS Classifieds for $1,250 to a CAS shooter in AK.

I had allotted $50 for shipping with ins.

He's willing to pay any extra to ship to AK.

I've never done that. Any advice on the best lower 48 to AK shipper and how to find out what it'll cost?

CBC's come from Marlin tuned........early 2000's

Not saying a gunsmith couldn't improve it........

I've learned to do my own tuning......

Checkering.....a Marlin purist may turn his nose up at one with aftermarket checkering..especially a CBC

Certain years came factory checkered..others were smooth.....

One of my favorite Marlins...a Cowboy 45 Colt...original owner chopped it from 24 to 20"

I had always wanted a 16" 45 Colt....prices were crazy back then......so I had my 20" chopped to 16"

Sure its not original...but after my hand tuning this ole Marlin (2001) is sweet.....

Yes...factory checkering...... grin

pic 2........unusual round barrel 45 Colt...mfg 2007...(yes hand tuned)

Unfortunately, all my fence posts are steel T-posts. Might be a little hard on the stock finish.

Nice wood on that one. Better than average, for sure.
