Our local Scheels store currently has a sale on their Vortex Razor and Viper spotting scopes. Before pulling the trigger I was wondering:
1) is there a better place to buy Vortex optics?
2) is there a better scope for the money and if so, what is it?

Ended up pulling the trigger on a Vortex Viper 20-60x85. Based on a single scouting trip for antelope, I'm thinking I'm going to like it.

Wish I’d have seen this sooner. Athlon Cronus is a big step above the Viper. I had a Viper for all of 2 days and sent it back and then called Joel at Cameraland and told him to ship me the Cronus. The Ares gets excellent reviews too.

Almost every piece of optics is better than vortex for the money

I am going to need to disagree here. I observed a wolf pack on an elk carcass in Yellowstone 2 weeks ago at a distance of over a mile and was very impressed with the quality of the image. I was able to observe the wolves' details clearly. Its a spotter I would have no issues using in the field.
