Respect. Those combat engineers were of huge importance.

By the way Ingwe, if I had been one of the liberators of an extermination or concentration camp, there would have been a LOT of dead German guards.

I do not think I could have held back, although it would have haunted me later.

Dad in front of a T-37 in about '67.
He was a mustang officer, coming up through the enlisted ranks before going through Air Cadets and becoming an officer.
He went on to fly the T-6, T-28, T-33, F-84f, F-85, F-100, T-37 and T-39. We lost him in '99 to a tumor in his head.

The Germans had abandoned the place, knowing the Americans were coming.

Not all the germans got out of Auschwitz in time though, and you can guess what happened....

And even without what you mentioned, my dad had more than enough haunting him....
