MD (or others), I need some advice if you don't mind. If you were going to load 175's in a .280 AI, which three powders would you look at? Thanks in advance.

In my last .280 AI, 57.5 IMR7828SC and 61.0 IMR7977 both worked very well. However, that was before IMR8133 appeared, and it might be a good one to try as well, as Hodgon's top listed velocity is higher than for 7828 and 7977. I've had excellent luck with 8133 in several other rounds.

Thanks. I may even have some 8133. Have you ever tried R-26 for bullets in this range?

Peterson brass , RL 26 59 GR , 168 GR Nosler LRAB worked well in my Forbes 280 AI. 60 GR RL 26 with 160 GR Nosler AB Peterson brass. Peterson brass is heavier than RP Brass.
The rifle was re-barreled by Melvin Forbes and has a tight chamber.

I am also using KK's R26 load with the 168 LRAB, I have not tested hot weather performance yet, ignorance is bliss, and this is fine for cool weather hunting. VV 165 is another good option. RS Magnum would be worth a try as well. Please report on any 8133 loads as I am tempted to buy some and just bite the bullet on the Hazmat fee. I think it could do well in the 257 Weatherby and other magnums from 270 WSM and up.
KK I am envious of the 280 AI Forbs that should be a very good all around set up excluding big bears, but the 168 - 175 premium loads could handle that use as well.

Tried 26 with the 168 Nosler ABLR. working up to 62.0 for a little over 2900 fps (from a 22" barrel) and good accuracy. But it did not work so well with 175s in my rifle--a Mickey Coleman Douglas-rebarreled 700.

Back to the top, anyone else have good loads for heavies in the 280 AI?
