I grabbed this rifle because the stock is a beauty, but I found it punishing to shoot. I’m a weenie when it comes to recoil, and am going to see what offers are out there before looking into mitigating recoil and keeping the rifle.
There is a long list of things I would trade for. Some of those are:
UL shelter/tent 2 man+ (TarpTent, SMD, X-mid, etc. TT Hogback is my dream tent). First Lite szL base/mid layers 7mm-08 rifle (or braked/threaded 7RM) Nice 22 LR / 22WMR bolt action - I love CZ's (bonus points if threaded) Nice scope or 12x50 binos Rotomolded cooler M/L size
Looking for approximately $575 or equivalent trade value. I want to try to avoid shipping for now. I’m in GJ CO and can travel. I know lots of y’all are heading in this general direction in the near future (CO/UT/WY).
Text 630-779-7933 if you need any more photos. There are minor dings and scrapes, and the discoloration on the butt cap. Pretty immaculate otherwise.
Sharp rifle. I wouldn’t hesitate to try some reduced recoil loads in that and see if you can’t talk yourself into keeping it. If your a reloader, I’m sure there’s some guidance for you following a google query.
What shape is the pad in? A new decellerator pad might be a worthwhile upgrade too.
I’m not a reloader and don’t anticipate that changing, but I am going to shoot some 150 Federal blue box to see if it feels any different than the 180.
The pad appears to be a pretty nice Pachmayr, I did notice it is slightly off center, idk how important that is though. I won’t lose any sleep if I end up “having to” keep this beauty.
Thanks for the photo. The “U” will be the inspector’s stamp. From the serial number it will be a pre-1965 rifle. From the photo, the date code looks like RL, which would be November of 1964, which corresponds with the serial number and stock style of your rifle. The assembler’s mark is the far right stamping. Very nice first generation rifle indeed!
And I have only shot 5 rounds through it at 50 yards and it took very little adjusting to dial it in. The final 3 shots were grouped about the size of a silver dollar. I’m not a great shot and that was off hand (and the recoil made me flinch!)
You wear it over your shoulder. I use this in addition to the recoil pad on the rifle and it makes a really significant difference. I won't shoot anything but a .22 without it! The company makes many different models with similar names. But, the Super Mag Plus is the thickest. It costs around $30. Combined with lighter bullets, this should make your rifle manageable.
