Haven’t seen this posted yet. Awesome video. Wanted to get this up before jags obligatory “why I choot grizzly bears.”

Cool video. I’ve heard speculation that the elk had a broken or gimp leg prior to being pushed into the river. I really don’t know though.

Great vid. I think there was something wrong with that elk.

Yep.
Met the wrong bear.
Wrong time, wrong place. grin

No idea; certainly a good chance as he definitely was a herd bull and no doubt had been busy. Either way, just an amazing encounter to capture on video.

It didn't look like the elk was moving under full power.

I don’t recall ever seeing a video of a grizzly taking down an elk. That it when right for the thoracic spine is interesting. The impact to the central nervous system combined with the weight of the bear was pretty dang effective.

It looked like he might of been limping in the water, but perhaps the video shooter wanted to obscure that since he shows a still shot of the elk running towards the water but omits the following video footage until he's already belly deep in the water. Neat vid but unless somehow that footage had something wrong with it, seems like he edited out a significant aspect of the event.

Maybe; but I suspect that more likely he was taking stills then switched to video once he realized what was going on. That wasn’t shot with an IPhone

Yep. The elk was definitely not motoring well.

It’s clear that bull has a hind end injury (leg? spine?) His rump drops with each step just before the bear catches up with him.

I seen some still pics on another forum from a bit later after the kill. It looked like the bear had dug a partial hole in the ground and maybe had ideas of cacheing the kill.

On another look, the bull has blood on his rump before the bear catches him.

Prior encounter?

Not taking anything away from the bear, but the elk wasn't moving at the speed a normal elk would have been.
