My 6th grader is doing remote learning because they don't have enough busdrivers. Don't get me started! Anyway, I get to listen since I work from home. So, yesterday, her teacher was beginning a lesson on ancient cultures and was discussing Egypt. At one point I heard him talking about men wearing jewelry as well as women. Today, my daughter and I were discussing this after her class. I asked why he was talking about that yesterday. She said it was because he was talking about "bias". I asked if she could tell me exactly what bias means. She was a little cloudy. Am I wrong on thinking this is the beginning of indoctrination with this teacher? BTW, young, male, looks the beta male part, too. I told her Dad is listening and she said she knows men dressing like women is wrong. I'm taking notes on my desk calendar and before too long I'll be in there raising holy hell with the Bernie Bro and the Principal. Am I wrong? Am I overreacting?

Be really careful if you go there ....Take a witness or two with you or wear a body cam or they will say you threatened them....And have you escorted off school grounds or arrested and expel your Kid from e learning... I was kicked off of School grounds 25 years ago....Teacher told my Son he would go nowhere and was a looser He was in 1st grade....I went there fully intent on kicking that [bleep] ass...My looser son went on to spent 10 years in the Marines and Now owns his own Business making 200K a year bring home....The last time we ran in to the teacher he was working at the mall during the Holidays...Whos the looser...LOL

A simple phone call to the super should suffice. If it continues go to the school board.

I'd use an email to retain a record of what was said.

You would be surprised as how a nice phone call can trickle down to a teacher and make him think twice before injecting personal thoughts into teaching, especially if he knows parents are paying attention.

Get your districts policy manual. See what the policy is for a teacher stating political beliefs. They will all have a policy on this. Find out which way your school board leans. Print out the policy, and in the public comment section of the board meeting read the policy and state your case. Board can’t take action but if the board has a few conservatives they will be on the phone with the super first thing the next morning.

If you want to get nowhere, go chew out a principal. Or, show up wearing a MAGA hat and act like fool.

Conservative friend is head of the school board. Called her and had a chat. Allegedly, in the first week another teacher told older students men can now get pregnant. She also said a huge row has broken out over whether parents and school board members can randomly audit a class for a day. Teachers have gone nuts apparently. She is getting me a copy of the district manual. She was glad to learn another concerned parent out there is willing to step up which I am oh so willing to do. They will not get ahold of my baby unless it's over my dead body. And then they'd better pack a lunch and bring friends!

Seems like you are on the right track. School board doesn’t do personal issues but the super answers to the school board. The locally elected board can make like rather difficult for the super if he doesn’t keep his principals and teachers in line. Supers like to be on the good side of the board when it comes bonus and raise time.

The reality is that teachers in the public school system are a protected species once they are tenured. It costs a district a pile of money to get rid of them. So they don’t.

Good luck. I am sure you are well aware or your other two options. Homeschool or private.

There's a single word that makes school administrators sit up and take notice, or have an instant case of explosive diarrhea- - - - -"Lawyer". It even works when a teacher who is being harassed uses it, as I proved many times when I was being pressured to "adjust" grades to meet the "federal guidelines" for pass/fail ratios when the "No Child Left Behind" program came into being.

You can not be too paranoid when it comes to bureaucracies that impinge on your children.

Interesting how they have twisted history and the meaning of bias. I will agree that Egyptian men as well as women wore jewelry but it was a status symbol. The richer you were the more bling you wore.(sounds like today’s groids) Does that show bias nope. If he wanted to show bias or prejudice he should have pointed out that those who wore the most bling were also the ones that enslaved the masses for their own gain since they were inferior.

Bluefish,

I'm coming from a Christian perspective, just so you know up front. I look to the Bible as my guidebook for life, including children's education. Some of my experience is in Christian education.

When a child is exposed to any form of media, peers, teachers, and entertainment, there will be influences.
I must be brief right now, so please don't consider this a trite rebuke. I just don't have a chance to lay out the context.

When a child spends as many hours per day with these strangers, who happen to be their teachers, there will be strong influences. If they have 6 hours of quality time plus homework with your children and you are busy feeding, cleaning and getting the family ready for the next day; who do you think will have more influence upon your child's soul? Will it be the parents that truly love those children and care more than anyone in this world, or a stranger? Sadly, the ones that probably don't reflect the parents values will impart their own upon your children.

A note or meeting won't change the curriculum, nor the imbedded values of those teachers.

If the Lord should bless me with children, they will be taught at home by their mother and me. I will enlist the help of private tutors when needed.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

What do you think?

Best regards,

Happy Camper

Short and, I hope, sweet. Do not hesitate to address this - do it via e-mail (as earlier suggested) and maintain a record. Ask for a written response to happen within 24 hours. Write the e-mail to the principal and send copy to (at least) the teacher and the Superintendent. This makes them all accountable (if they know what that is) and continue to press your concerns in that manner.

This approach leaves the school board out of it - enables you to find out if the Super "advises" them of such complaints - and you always can up it to the board level if needed. Shows concern and proper process (due restraint) on your part for openers. Stick to actual facts - do not speculate about agendas potential outcomes - let them make stupid moves if there are to be any. You are an owner of the school. The employees are not.
