Hawkeye, check out the Northwoods,Scagel,Marbles forum at knifeforums.com for info on what happened to The Marbles knives after 2002. Basically since that time they went to cheaper carbon and stainless steel knives and do not make any of the blades in the original plant. There is a usa made series of fixed blades that are only assembled at the marbles plant. Camllus was making the blades until they went under a few years ago. Nobody seems to know how is making the blades at this time. They are also having folding knives made in china and fixed blades made in Pakistan currently.

Wow! That stinks. Glad I loaded up those first few years they were back, then.

PS How do you tell by the spacers what year a Marbles knife was made?

These are the spacer patterns from the Mike Stewart years, AFAIK:

1998 ..... Blk-W-Br-R-R-Br-W-Blk

1999 ..... Blk-Br-W-R-R-W-Br-Blk

2000 ..... Blk-Br-Br-W-R-W-Br-Br-Blk

2001 ..... Blk-W-Br-Br-R-Br-Br-W-Blk

R = Red
W = White
Br = Brass
Blk = Black

Resurrecting an old thread here.

Had a quick question for those in the know.

What blade steel would a Marbles Loveless Approved Drop Point Carver made in 2000 have? It’s the
Sport 99 model with grey laminate wood game getter handle.

Spacers: Black, white, white, red, red, white, white, Black.

Blade stamp is 2 lines: Marbles
Gladstone MI. USA

Any chance this would have the 52100 steel blade?

I own 3 Marbles knives(2 Fieldcraft, 1 Plainsman). All made in 1998-1999 with 52-100B blades. They all are wicked sharp and hold that edge for a long time.

I’ve purchased some really nice customs in the past made with great blade steel(ATS-34, D2) and I gotta say, I think the 3 marbles I own are better knives. That 52-100 steel is good stuff!
I’d love to find a couple more made with 52-100 steel from the ”Mike Stewart” era in different models. That Loveless pattern has me intrigued.

Marbles blades were mostly outsourced for grinding, etc.

I do have a few Marbles blades that their primary grinder ended up when they [bleep] on their suppliers and went overseas.
Most all the blades I have were out of their 'Proprietary" 52100B.
It is a good steel, but likes to pit and rust.
The blades I have are sterile as they never made it to Marbles for final assembly.

So far I’ve not had any problems with pitting or rust.
But I will admit to being a little anal about care and cleaning when it comes to my knives and firearms.
I do not store my knives in the sheath at home(only when hunting). And they get cleaned off completely with baby wipes in the field or soap and water at home followed by a good wipe down with Eezox rust inhibitor....they never go in the sheath dirty.
