I have a remington 700 and the barrel is not centered in the barrel channel. What causes that and how do I correct it.

Sometimes its a bedding issue. IE: the receiver not parallel to the barrel channel. Id check to make sure the stock isnt warped first though.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Sounds like stock has warped or shifted. Purchase a slightly smaller diameter channel scraper, auger out, and reseal channel.

Sounds like stock has warped or shifted. Purchase a slightly smaller diameter channel scraper, auger out, and reseal channel. The op doesn't state whether it's synthetic or wood. It could also be a custom stock. I've seen this with bansners and had to relieve the rear tang, re-center and then glass bed the action. Problem solved...
