When using the neck sizer, we are only resizing the neck, and ARE NOT bumping the shoulder back?
Tell me so.

Depends on the die. Standard neck sizer yes, they do make a shoulder bump neck die.

Tell me so. I just answered the question. Just pointed out there isn’t a true or false answer. I can see some advantage since most who neck size end up using either FL die or body die to bump the shoulders back, why not do it in one step.

Given this is a thread about the Lee Collet Die, I assumed you were referring to Lee when you said they. It's tough to stay on topic.

That's the combination I used to use to achieve minimum runout. Now I just use a Forster full length sizing die and do it in one step rather than two.

I'm thinking about going to a lee collet + Redding body die setup for my newly acquired Tikka 223 Thats the route I took with my newer Tikka 6.5, So much faster and easier you'll tend to overthink it, Hence the purpose of this thread. The time and steps eliminated just by no case lube, or lube cleanup after full length sizing. Where's the downside ?

Every time with my .223 brass after reading of Mule Deer's method of setting the Forster FL die up for minimal shoulder bump and raise the expander ball up so the neck is supported while the ball is pulled through. My results are that I get less neck runout this way than I used to get with the Redding - Lee CND combo. I also sort my brass for neck thickness uniformity and cull anything over .0015" variance when I start a new batch of brass.

The only problem that may occur with a Forster FL die is the neck section may size the brass more than necessary. They have to make the off the shelf dies tight enough to work with the thinnest commonly available brass. If you're working with one thickness of brass you can have Forster hone out the die to suit, and this is a really excellent set up.

The Forester is just a standard full length die, right? How would it be different than a standard RCBS or my Redding master hunter w/ carbide expander?

In its standard configuration the Forster (no e in the middle) has its expander ball just below the neck section of the die. The others don't. The RCBS can be adjusted in this regard if you don't mind giving up the decapping function, but I don't believe the Redding ball can be adjusted that high.

Good bullets properly placed always work, but not everyone knows what good bullets are, or can reliably place them in the field
