Thank you. Is it safe to assume that you posting this implies that these scopes have your seal of approval?

I’ve never held one. The reticle looks not so great on paper, but that’s personal preference.
At that price point I’d be willing to try one based solely on the Zeiss Conquest reputation. It’s gotta be better than the PA/Vortex $400 optics.

Thanks for the heads-up. I have one coming my way. I might give it to my son as a Christmas gift. He's a college student, and he decided to buy an AR this summer just in case the upcoming elections go the wrong way. Being on a limited budget, he decided to buy a Ruger 556, and it came bare with no sights. Since then, he purchased a set of irons, but I figure this scope might make a nice gift.

I've had an interest but never tried one........are they mostly designed for an AR platform?
I do think the specs on weight seem hefty for what they are.........but many optics these days are so it's subjective.
Thoughts on the weight vs what you get in zoom?

Thanks for the link. Seems like a decent review, but I don't know anything about the author's credentials. I can't see getting hurt too bad for the price. I watched a Zeiss video demonstrating how to use the zero-stop feature. It's pretty straightforward and appears to be well thought out.

I’d rather have a 1-6 Meopta for a just a bit more money I'll keep my eye out for one of those around Black Friday and look for a deal. I can use a decent LPVO for myself. Makes sense to me that the old man should have a 1-6 and the kid should have a 1-4, right? Gotta keep the upper hand....

Thoughts on the weight vs what you get in zoom? LPVOs have a tendency to be rather heavy for what you get, particularly those with a "true" 1x low end and 30mm tube. I'm not an optical engineer and am not qualified to speak on the technical reasons for it, it's just a drawback of this particular flavor of optic. In my opinion, the weight can be worth it, but not in all cases. If shots at bad-breath distance are a possibility, the "true" 1x and illuminated reticle is absolutely worth it. I have a Trijicon TR24 (14.4oz) on my 5.56 AR carbine and wouldn't trade it for anything (unless Trijicon debuted a TR24 with a BDC reticle!). As that carbine is outfitted as a lightweight infantryman's weapon with a secondary pest control role, the combination of bright glass, wide field of view, and illumination plays to its strengths. LPVOs are usually mounted on ARs nowadays, but that's not to say they're only suited to them. Broad FOV is immensely valuable on any rifle, provided the additional weight will not severely hamper its weight and balance. I have a Leupold 1.5-4x on my .270, and have been very happy with it. I would not hesitate to mount this Zeiss on a short woods rifle. As an aside, I rather like the reticle featured in the review BobBrown linked. I'd prefer it with a broad vertical post below the stadia lines, to approximate a German #4, but the horizontal bars look to be a better solution than just floating a tiny BDC reticle out in space like some LPVO designs tend towards.

But at the current $800ish price I’d pass. I have an aimpoint micro I want to retire, its still in wonderful shape I have just found that I can hit with LPV's much better at reasonable distances. The Trijicon 1-8 FFP is a beast, NF sees fit to only sell the covered turrets on their 1-8 to select clientele, but damn that IR is bright but at $1800 or so you don't want some company telling you what you cannot buy, the steiner has been great, the old SWFA 1-4 had been great until they moved them to the phillipeans. I don't know how bright the IR in trijicon 1-4's are, but now at $800 for the steiner the SWFA 1-6 is looking a lot better.

I do some freelance work with Meopta and I will say that one of my favorite optics they make is the Optika6 1-6x24 SFP. I've had it on everything from a .375 H&H to a 10/22. It has now found a permanent home on my LMT 5.56 that is used for hog/predator control. Love the illumination which is bright enough to see in daylight and perfect for evening swine patrol. For sub $550, I think it offers the user a lot of quality and features that you will appreciate.

Can anyone recommend a decent mount for the Zeiss that won't break the bank?
Thank you.

For this price for an illuminated Jap LPVO, might to have to give one a try. Thanks for sharing the deal.
For mount recommendations, I'd say check out the Leupold Mark AR mount (on sale at Midway). I also like the Warne X-Skel mounts, Brownells sells a branded version of the Warne too. For quick detach mounts (and more $) I like Larue and American Defense Manufacturing.

Thank you. Burris PEPR is the low cost champ. You'll probably want the +3" offset for flexibility.

aero is a good choice. I have had two of the spr mounts they are about $80, not qd but they worked fine on a 308 ruger ar until I got rid of it. I sold one to someone and still have the other sitting around as a spare. I am more partial to Larue mounts but they are more money.
