As much as I hate to admit it, I've seen my dad do worse. He had really short fat fingers and used to hunt with a 1200 Winchester shotgun. It had the safety at front of the trigger bow. He had trouble finding it in a hurry and brazed a thumb tab from a drill chuck key on the safety to extend it so he could reach. Ugly as hell, but I guess it worked for him. Wish I had a picture of it. Well maybe not now I think of it.
