When did they stop using brass for the rotary spool? Looked at one today in the 675, xxx range it had the steel rotary mag spool. Mb

They switched to steel in the early 50's. Had case colored rotors for a while.
VERY early, like in the first year or two of production of the 1899s, there are some rotors that show up that are silver and we've never figured out what they are made of. That didn't last long.

I had it in my cranium that they went to case colored steel for a year or two in 1954 ish but went back to brass for a while, then later aluminum. Did I misremember that too? Oh boy....

They went back to brass rotors through end of 50's, not sure when the last of the steel rotors were used. 1955? I don't recall any of my 99F's having steel rotors but I haven't had that many.

I think I just saw one with a steel rotor with a B LBC

Interesting. Almost all that have been shown here have been 1952/1953. Never say never tho.

I have long been under the impression that the case hardened steel rotors were due to a brass shortage during the Korean War.

My 1952 EG 300 Savage has a case colored rotor if that helps narrow it down.

My 51 lbc C is color cased. Eg 300
My 56 lbc G is brass F 250-3000

I show small numbers used in 1949 throught 1954. I think we collected data on this many years ago.
