by using 10.0 grs of Unique. If your feed ramp on frame and barrel are in-spec, you can safely get .454 casull performance with just a rechambering of your barrel. Grennell was swaging his own .45 jhp's back then. Today, the wusses all "think" that 1200 fps is fast and dangerous with 165 gr jp's. :-) Grennell was using regular .45 ACP brass for this.

That's before my time, but I believe it. That would be a good lightweight woods gun. That should be plenty for white tail.

But going from memory, hand loads using 45 super brass and 165gr lead were clocked at 1600fps from a 5" Douglass barrel.
I have no idea what charge or if it was a safe pressure. I was testing a new 1911 for an article, using someone elses ammo.

PS:. Warning. Don't test this at home anybody. This was from a linkless, gas delayed blowback design.

lead can be driven a bit faster than jacketed bullets, normally, but you have to have the right alloy and lube, to not foul the bore and sometimes have keyholing bullets at such speeds. I've seen 83 gr .45 swc's, cast of pure tin from a 155 gr swc mold that Lee used to sell. With 5" barrels and .460 rowland cases, they'll go 1900 fps with no problem. Hollowbase them to 70 grs and the 2000 fps mark is easily reached.

That's serious medicine. Sounds like fun. Especially when you have such a versatile range of loads for a semiauto.

I like the caliber and was ready to buy the conversion at one point. Then I had a question for John. Surprised he was such a jerk, I decided to use my $ for something else right after talking to him. My idea was for a stout caliber hiking pistol without going to a dedicated heavy hunting revolver.

Back to the Super.
The jacketed rounds that I shot were something he, another John who claimed that corbon sent him...just the bullets. That was the first time I ever saw 135gr hp. These weren't brass, just jacketed.
I was very impressed that they clocked around 1800fps. The impulse wasn't all that bad surprisingly.

you dont need anything special. Just get a 1/2" hole thru both lungs and the critter wont go far. Ditto a hit thru liver, spleen, kidney or heart. they bleed out in 10 seconds when they run hard. The pure tin swc will do the same thing, with a lot less recoil, no more than hot 9mms loads, really, if you hollowbase it. 70 grs at 2000 fps has no more felt recoil than 200 grs at 700 fps. or 100 grs at 1400 fps, or 140 grs at 1000 fps. When I sectioned .45 super cases, they were no thicker at the web than R-P cases. .460 Rowland cases ARE thicker at the web and you CAN cut the case shorter, to ACP length. You dont have to practice with the .460 brass, eh? just use it for the hotter hunting lods.

if you weren't so cheap and lazy, you'd find out that what I have said is the facts of the matter, but you are, so all you CAN do is jeer from the sidelines, like the ignoramus that you ARE.

Lonee...

What about 40 S/W?

If you are not actively engaging EVERY enemy you encounter... you are allowing another to fight for you... and that is cowardice... plain and simple.
