Doing some shooting preparing for this years hunting season. Still playing with the new to me 250-3000. Dragging out a few others I haven’t messed with in years. It’s been fun. Since I had them out decided to take some pics. A meager and somewhat homely collection in comparison to most. I enjoy them though.

Might get out the other Savages soon for pics. Good opportunity to get a few when wiping them down.

Heading to the range later with the 340 30-30 and 342 Hornet. Want to try out their receiver sights.

Thought I’d post a few pics here:

Nice looking collection. What year and model are those. I see the 99 and 110 but those are odd looking 110's. and I know they are older.
Super nice though.

A healthy collection that looks like they're in "just right" condition--used enough to hunt without worrying about minor dings and dongs, but showing all the features!

Also love the barrel band carbine! What caliber is the early 110?

The three in the middle are 2 model 340’s and one model 342. The 342 is 22 Hornet the 340’s are 30-30 and .222.

Gary here sent me detailed instructions on how to refinish the .222 years ago. I followed them exactly and it turned out pretty good. I learned a lot in the process. The blueing is still really good but as purchased the stock was in poor shape. Managed some 5/8” and 3/4” groups with it the other day at 100 yards. Found a good load I think. Date code is 31I, 1957.

The 340 30-30 is a “Deluxe” from what I understand. I’ve only shot factory rounds through it to date. Looking for a good load using pointed bullets now. Date code is 6B, 1950.

The 342 22 Hornet is a gem. Handloads shoot really well. I took the scope off. and installed the Lyman 44SS (think that’s correct). Looking forward to trying it out, infatuated with receiver sights presently. Date code 25G, 1955.

The 110 is a 30.06. It sees at least on day hunting per year. I like the rifle very much. Always looking for others, especially a 243. Date code K, 1959.

The 99H I recently bought and have been shooting. Got a good load now and plan to take it out this year too. Guys here say it’s from 1938.

Thanks for all the kind comments!

Very nice. I like those early 340's/342's, and the early 110's.

Barrel bands of course are great.. which is funny, considering they were the budget utility 99 of the 30's. Don't think the late 99E's will ever acquire that popularity. grin

Ring, I've mentioned a few times before that I've got one of the early 110's in 243. It is an amazing shooter, got lots of bullets and brass if you need it. I don't have a use for a 243. PM if you need it.

Why did they put barrel bands on some rifles?
