Guys,
Can someone with a Howa Mini-Action and a set of calipers let me know what the receiver wall thickness, total receiver diameter and action screw spacing is?
I'm planning a project for a cartridge off of the .221 Fireball/300 Blackout case and am comparing actions to use.
I have a Sako AI (in .223) and a Kimber Montana (in .223) to compare to. And yes I know that CZ has the 527 and there is also the (former) Rem. 799/Euro Mini-Mauser, but don't want to go with these for a couple of reasons (in spite of the eye candy Butch has plastered on these pages of his Mini-Mausers).
Also; Anyone with a 'Wildcat Composit's' stock care to comment on "finished" stock weight. He lists stock weight at 17.5 ounces. Undoubtedly before a pad and bedding.
Thanks,
Jerry

Can’t answer your specific questions, but I had built a 221fb on a Sako A1. it functions perfectly.

I’ve finished quite a few wildcats over the years and most sporter style stocks I hit the 19/20oz mark depending on which model. That’s finished including bedding, paint, studs and a decelerator.

Not sure how to measure reciever wall thickness without pulling barrel but the action screw spacing is 6.75 and action diameter is 1.180.
My tikka t3 wildcat stock weighs 19 ounces finished

Dale, BigJ and LeftHunter ==> Thanks for the info. LeftHunter, "the action screw spacing is 6.75" <=== typo I assume, as the action length per Howa is 6 inches for the Mini. "action diameter is 1.180." <=== Thanks, that'll do. What is the Bolt body dia,? Impressed with the Wildcat finished weights. I was thinking of modifying their Sako stock for a Howa (done this before for other stocks/actions), hence the question on action screw spacing, but now I've read that Oregunsmithing has lightweight stocks specifically for the Howa. Like to wait and see some feedback before I leap. Jerry https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...roducts-from-oregunsmithing#Post15257473

I had a Wildcat composite on my Model Seven 260 and unfinished it was 15 Oz, with paint and a thin recoil pad it came in at 18 oz.

Wayne York is a reputable gunsmith who has built custom rifles off the Howa Mini action. He can likely help you with your questions. http://www.oregunsmithingllc.com/
