Well, let's see. It was the mid-90's. I had been running an online magazine via BBS for about 5 years. One of the features I'd started was this . . . well today you'd call it a weblog. I was making posts as a 600 lb Siberian Tiger named Shaman. It was a complicated story. It was all about the aftermath of divorce and post-divorce dating and the whole schtick was known to my readers and it borrowed heavily from other fiction projects that were going on at the time on my BBS. Shaman was kind of a "spinoff" from a virtual after-hours scene called "The Spanish Moon." You could find me usually laying at the feet of a gorgeous woman named Red who sat in the shadows in the back of the bar. The Spanish Moon was, in turn, a spinoff from a virtual coffee house called "The Little Further Inn."

Somewhere about mid-95, I decided that I needed to expand my real-life dating horizons and I asked some friends about using other BBS's and the new thing, the Internet, to find dates. Somebody pointed me to a place called The Jungle Vine. Being a Cincinnati-centric kind of guy, I thought it was a Bengals bulletin board. I used the handle Shaman. Suddenly, I had all kinds of women wanting to date the new tiger. It did not occur to me until waaay to late that . . . what do you do on a Jungle Vine? Yep, it was a swingers board. Ooops.

The actual name, Shaman, comes from the fact that I became a practicing shaman at some point after college. It a long, long story, but it has to do with my dalliance in the neo-pagan community. It's not a proper name, like Fred or Jake. It's more like calling someone "plumber" or "mechanic."

At the time I joined the Campfire I was knocking most of my critters down with a 7mm-08 and a 7mm RSAUM.

My left eye doesnt turn left so appears to make my right eye hook ( when looking left ).

A bit of self depricating humor, a spin off of " hawkeye ".
Since my vision used to be very good.

Hunting/ shooting thing.

Killed alot of bucks with a Thompson Center .50 cal Renegade from 1992 to 2011.
Hunted with it daily on FTCKY and its 3.5 month long seasons.
Let alot walk with it also.
Renegade50 has been banned from many websites.
The record time for a ban is about 35 to 45 mins on snipershide.

Finally! I've been trying to decipher your user name since I've been lurking.

Morebees would have easier to figure out.

When I joined the 'fire a couple of years later, it was a natural move to use the same name.

Hands down the best name/story combo so far.

Gopher refers to me being from Minnesota, home of the University of Minnesota who's mascot is Goldie the Golden Gopher. Gunner is pretty obvious.

I love Browning firearms and I was born in 1988.

Guys at work used to roll their eyes and tell people “don’t listen to him for advice, he’s a Browning guy!”

Many of the names I was trying were taken and a question popped up and started asking about likes, hobbies ect., and at the time it so happened I was in the market for some new wading boots for fly fishing...and it turns out a lot of internet folks now call me Boots which was my father's nickname from childhood. I'll take it.

My Indian name is “Bends Iron”.

I used the English language translation here so it would be clear.

My middle son had a college buddy that tagged me as Papa T many years ago. It stuck. Been known as Papa T ever since.
