need my meter box relocated about 12 feet on the same wall. Decided to go the cheapest way by running aluminum wiring along the eave of the roof, come in thru the attic just above the electrical box.

probably 30 feet of wiring, 2 hours work, no permit , no inspection required

he quoted me $2600

maybe that's fair and I'm just out of touch, but even if the wiring is $500, that's $1050 an hour in labor.

good lord, I'm in the wrong business

That would be a heckuva good deal in my neck of the woods as long as the electrician is licensed and bonded. What you describe is more than a two hour job. Here you'd need a permit and inspections to change the power mast location.

He, like most in construction these days, is busy and can choose his work. Just nuts what I observed in north Idaho over the past four months. Feast or famine for them.

He was giving you a deal.

Aluminum wiring can be bad news. Most insurance companies won't cover a house with aluminum wiring. Be very careful about this choice.

That would be high as hell in this area. $1,000 max, and making good money at that.

Always get more than one bid

Make sure the quotes are for the same scope of work though

A brain surgeon calls the plumber to get his clogged drain snaked. The plumber duly arrives and runs a snake through through the surgeon's drain, clearing it.
'
"How much do I owe you?" asked the surgeon.

"$200," replies the plumber.

"$200 for five minutes' work!" cries the surgeon. "I'm a brain surgeon and don't get that kind of money!"

"Yeah, I know," responds the plumber. "That's why I gave up my practice."

no permit and no inspection for moving and manipulating a metering device?

If I had to pay that, I’d get copper and I also wouldn’t hire some ‘rat’ local. Get a man with a JW.

He was the one that said it was a 2 hour job.He also said no permits or inspection.

After I get 2 more quotes I'll see where he is. He told me he was booked out for 4 weeks so he wasn't too motivated.

If all are north of $2500, I'll build around it.

You have to put a External disconnect where the power comes in (a Breaker box), then you can run it to the power panels...

The new anchors, conduit to get it to that breaker won’t be cheap, plus you have to work with the power company and draw the permits to move the triplex (wire from the pole), so manhours are going to suck - at least 3 trips...

Anything under 1,600 is screwing the electrician over...

we talked at length on the various approaches, he said because its inside such a short length that I would not need a disconnect by running it outside.

again, I'm only going by what he said, maybe he got home after our discussion and realized it would be more to it than he originally thought.

he said if we do it the way I described it would not require an inspection. Maybe he was talking out of his ass, I don't know. He is pretty well respected in the area.

I would encourage any young person today to do an apprenticeship and get a skilled labor job. Anyone today going to about 90% of the colleges are going to get a degree in Hate America.
