Saw it last night, Red Box. About the defense of an indefensible Army outpost on the Pakistan Afghanistan border in 2009. After three years the Army decided to shut it down because of it's poor location. Shortly before the shutdown was to take place the Taliban attacked in force resulting in a 14 hour firefight in which eight American soldiers were killed, many wounded and two soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor. One of them, Clinton Ramesha wrote a book about this, "Red Platoon". Good book, good movie. A lot of ammo expended.

Romesha was one of the people profiled in Netflix's "Medal of Honor" series, each episode told the story of the person's background and circumstances leading up to the award.
IIRC correctly in the episode when he was assigned there he was thinking it was SOP for military forces to take the high ground and here they were building a base at the bottom of the mountains where the Taliban could look down into the outpost from all sides.
It's available to rent from Fandango or Amazon Prime, definitely going to give this one a watch.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

I haven't seen the movie, but I've read the book a couple of times.
IIRC, part of the reason that it wasn't shut down sooner was that chinook assets required to evacuate and back-haul equipment were tied up looking for Bowe Bergdahl.
Also, the original reason that site was selected was that it was accessible by road and logistical support wouldn't require transportation by chinook, but the road was very narrow and wouldn't safely accommodate anything bigger than a HUMVEE so they ended up needing the chinooks to resupply.
