I have a 700 BDL 300 win mag. And was wondering if that action is suitable to build a 340 on...

Just wondering if you have priced ammo or reloading parts for this?
I have a 300 Win. Mag, it gives dirt naps with ease. I also have a 338 RUM it works just as well as the 300. The 338 RUM kicks harder so it must kill better.

Just given you a bad time, just joking.

The 300 win mag action should work just fine.

Hammerdown. Oh I understand believe me between the 300 ultra 7mm ultra and 458 win and 375h&h mags I have already I understand price and recoil. Some of us are just gluttens for punishment on both ends financially and physically all kidding aside I've always wanted a 340 and I've had this 700 BDL since I bought it new in 87. It's time to rebarrel it. Sentimental value would just be magnified I guess

The 340 Wby was the round I used for several trips for Black Bear in British Columbia. That is open range hunting in logging country, so shots can be far. I can tell you that the 340 will absolutely flatten even the largest Black Bear. It will also do well with Elk out west and anything you may hunt in Alaska.

I believe the .340 WBY is a necked up .300 WBY.....which is longer than the .300 Win Mag.

Before I spent much money on this project, I'd like to be assured that your magazine is long enough to handle the .340 Weatherby.

Someone mentioned ammo/brass cost. If you are already set up for .375 H&H, those make great .340 Wby brass. Just neck down and fire form.

The price on 340 Weatherby ammo isn't as bad as it once was. I can find it under $50 a box

Yeah, it'll work fine. The magazine box is plenty long enough, and .340's will feed smoothly.

And I see it more as a want than need just being honest.:. I have drooled over several mark v's but just never pulled the trigger on the purchase but after looking at my old BDL 300win I just got to thinking about how to make this old war horse breathe a little more fire I have an hs stock and or a hogue full aluminum pillar bedded stick to put on it and have a very good gunsmith in mind that can handle the job.. but again I trust a lot of the opinions here and I'm sure others have done and thought about similar builds I own a 700 lss in 257 weatherby and a classic stainless model 70 and a classic sporter both in 270 weatherby mag. I just wanted the 340. I love the idea of its power. Kind of like the hammer of Thor

Love the 340 Wby! I used one on a Plains Game hunt in south Africa and Namibia, 210 XBT going 3200fps ( '98) rifle was formerly a 300 win Mag that I sent to Match Grade Arms. I had it built too light ( with its necessary brake it kicked the guts out of every scope I put on it. before I had to quit it ( went to the spare 300WM we took) I killed a big zebra mare, Impala, Blesbuck, and a big Namibian Gemsbuck. That rifle got rebarreled back home to a heavier barreled 338WM. Later in life, I had a factory Model 700 338 RUM and a Weatherby Vanguard custom. The 700 shot the 250PT right at 3000fps easily, and the Wby shot the 180 NAB right at 3500fps. 338 RUM and 340 Wby...same same to me! Have a ball pard!

I have a 340 wby with a muzzle break that eats scopes too glad to hear I am not the only one with that problem!
I should probably rebarrel it but I just love that gun and it just flattens game with 250 gr partitions

I have owned a couple of Mark V's in .340 and it is a terrific cartridge.
Never experienced scope issues but both were Magnaported which is a terrific addition to a .340 as it keeps the muzzle down during recoil and absolutely does provide a sensation of reducing recoil with this cartridge.

One of my favorite rifles I ever saw come out of D’Arcy Echols shop was a sporter weight .340. I only ever got to shoot it on the range. It had a Leica scope. Thing was a laser beam with 250 partitions. I would have loved to shoot game with it.

I can see that rifle being a beautiful elk rifle! He doesn’t turn out much that won’t deliver.
