I had a 30-30 over 12 ga. Thinking it was the 24F series. That's the only one I've ever seen.

The 30-30 was the second rifle cartridge that Savage offered in the 24V starting in 19?? and was carried on through to the end of the 24V series and then forward into the 24/24F with a synthetic stock and forearm.

The .222 Remington was the first centerfire cartridge offered in the Savage 24V in 1967.
This was followed by the 30-30 in the 24V in 1973, all over a 20 gauge barrel.
Followed by the 24F in 30-30 over a 12 gauge barrel with the tupperware stocks.
In between the 24V and 24F Savage did produce a 24V in 30-30 over 12 gauge(with screw in chokes), with the scroll work of a 24F and a cross bolt safety. I have one unfired, hardwood furniture, and while the gun only says Savage 24(no V), the box with matching serial number says 24V. I spoke with an oldtimer at the savage factory years ago, and he told me the 24V in 30-30 over 12 was rather rare, not to many made and they went to the 24F.

My Dad's brother had a 12/30-30.
It was a Model 24 Savage.
It shot to the sights as he never put a scope on it.

I always thought the perfect survival aka knock around long gun would be a model 24 chambered in 22 lr over a 30/30 barrel. We don't have much use for shotguns out west. With the combination I mentioned you could hunt both small and large game. All you would need to make it work is a double bladed folding reciever sight. One for each barrel. Perfect gun for Alaskan airplanes. I saw one so converted and the price was out of my league.

I have owned several 24s, and since none ever put the shotgun pattern into the same place as the sights I finally gave up. My first was a .22 Magnum/20 gauge, which put the very bottom of the pattern where the sights pointed, and the rest were no improvement.
I may have been unlucky, but have not encountered the same problem with several European drillings.

I owned a pile of Savage 24s in every shotgun and rifle combination except for the 357 Maximums and the 12 gauges and have only had a few that would put the center of the pattern from the shotgun barrel close to the POA. Since there isn't any way to regulate the barrels it is, pardon the pun, a hit or miss situation.
I have been luckier than you with regard to Savage 24s, as the three that I like the best, a 22M/410, a 22M/20, and a 223/20 will put the shot pattern a little high, but at a consistent height that can be compensated for once you were aware of the variance between the POA and the POI.

I have two of the 25fs 30-30/ 12 ga. Mine take choke tubes and the mossberg turkey choke fits . I mounted a Leupold 2x7 scope on each. Hand loaded 125 gr bt work well in both. I have used that combo extensively quite well for turkey and hog hunting at the same time. Pretty simple, on a gobbler I just hold on the top his head and dead bird. Just lucky I guess but I need all the luck I can get. Happy Hunting

Had one of the late ones with a synthetic stock. Put .30/30 and Remington slugs to the same POI at 50 yards. Killed a decent buck with the rifle. Very heavy, though, and the stock was possibly the worst I ever owned, with a square comb that just hammered me. Despite its utility, it went down the road without a tear.
What fresh Hell is this?

Got an early one that belonged to my grandfather who died way back in 1968, when I was still in High School...
its 22 LR on top and 410 on the bottom...
My grand dad loved squirrel and rabbit as his favorite meals..
the 410 is the best squirrel gun I've ever had... and when I got it in 1968... the 22 on top was already shot out..
I have no idea how many rounds it takes to shout out a 22 Single shot, but my grand dad managed to...no rifling on the first 2 to 3 inches in front of the chamber.. don't think they came that way from the factory....made before required serial numbers, as this one doesn't have one... at least I've ever been able to see...

Never heard of a 22 RF being shot out. Corrosion yes. Abrasion from using a steel brush yes. You sure its not leaded up? Get some lead remover and give it a good soaking and bronze brushing. My bet is the rifling will reappear.
Look for a stamped letter and number inside of a "football border" around the breach area. The letter is the date code and the number is the inspector. The Savage/Stevens date codes are in a post further down in this forum,
