It's a 4 digit. .222 rem over 20. Won it in a local auction. I've yet to pick it up but the SN is 3205. I'm thinking 1967?

It's in the 1966 catalog, but without the pistol grip checkering. It's in the 1967 catalog just like that.
So it's going to probably late 1966 or 1967 I would think. Somewhere on it would be a date stamp.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

I'm pretty excited! Paid a bit much for it ($650) but I've been wanting one for years!

Update, I put a non-factory rail on it, Weaver 74. Attached an AT3 2 mil red dot. Will test it at 50 yards this week with both .222 rem and 25 yards with 3" mag shot shell. Hopefully I'll find a good compromise between the two for some hunting next week. This virgin is about to lose her cherry, 54 years later.

Last post on this subject. I loaded several loads and found out it loves W748 with 23 grains so I loaded up another 80 rounds. 50 yards, 39 deg, no wind. It behaved very well with the red dot. Still have the 20 gauge shot shell to test at 25 yards with red dot. I'll do that in the field tomorrow with the oldest lab as we scout for ducks. More Sierra 50 grain .224 enroute.
