Not being from Oregon I wouldn't know.
Hunters/shooters in OZ are pretty smart in my experience.

I went to Oregon once and needed a translator and had to have a methed-up attendant pump my gas. It's like a foreign country.

E-Z Flow makes adaptors for GI cans that accept their caps and schnozzles and vent in the old school manner.

L2S. You put a bee in my bonnet with this so I sourced a couple I have been looking at on ebay, they will be landed for just under $160 au. The sealey should be good for filling the lawn mower and pressure washer, the swiss reject should be handy for the diesel Hilux (save the paintwork). I am sick to death of using stuff that half does the job.
