Several years ago we had a horrendous winter that devastated the fawn crop. They've been slowly rebuilding and this year we're seeing a lot of good young bucks. Last winter was mild and they wintered very well. This one was rolling in fat to the point of obesity and has very nice antlers for a forky. It's been dry all summer but they've had plenty of feed.

I was up there last weekend when you guys got a little rain and snow in the high country. Didn’t see a lot of deer but wasn’t really looking. At least not in unit 45 where I was. I’d shoot that forky in a heartbeat in an open unit. Congratulations

There's a skiff of snow above 9k. We had about 1/4" of rain Tues night in the mountains. It cooled things off and made hunting a lot quieter but didn't do much for wetting the soil.
We have cow tags in units 45 and 52. It opens Nov 1. Were you scouting up there?

I was visiting family and doing a little shooting. Rock be careful on that hunt. I did it last year. Trucks got shot and people got shot at. I hunted the last week and saw one elk. I even had two private ranches I could hunt but the elk were gone. We did find some on the last day and got permission from the land owner but couldn’t make it in because of the deep snow.

Good luck to you.

It certainly wasn't our 1st choice for a hunt but we didn't draw. I'm very familiar with what those roads can be like when there's been some rain. While it's a big unit, they've issued too many tags for 1 hunt. It's nuts.

My youngest step daughter is a great rifle shot, but never hunted big game... One shot from my old .25-06 and a 100 gr. Sierra did the trick..

My son got his first deer on Saturday morning. He’s so pumped you can’t believe it. He worked his butt off this summer helping around the farm, he’s been practicing on pigs and shooting a pellet rifle for a couple of years, and he put in a lot of time making sure he was ready. I’m super proud of him.
