I got one that big about a year ago at the same spot.

Depends on if they stink or not.

Was once told and have found in my limited experience Killing hogs to seem true

Once you kill a hog, cut into a rear quarter. If meat smells nasty and musty it will taste nasty. If it smells earthy/meaty per say then it will eat fine

Have killed about 10 boars. 3 sows. Most smell kinda musty, but 3 of the big boars meat smelled very musty, and sure as heck tasted terrible even as sausage( the dang dog wouldn’t eat it no kidding). The ones that didn’t ate fine

Some of you have way more experience with this and would appreciate your input.

That’s a big boar. Get him kilt and post a pic for us!

Around here. We find the ones shot in the spring/early summer are great. Mid summer is questionable, late summer to fall and most smell pretty bad. You are what you eat, so are they.

That is a full-grown fella for sure. I’d hook on to his carcass with a chain and drag out for coyote bait. I like 150-200lb sows for eating.

Back in 2015 deer season, I killed one similar in size and he was terribly rank. Pulled him to the “boneyard” on our lease. Buzzards, coyotes and other hogs wouldn’t feed on him. Had an extended doe season into January and that nasty pig was never predated. He could have been sick but didn’t show any sign of illness...just nasty. About 80-125lbs is great.

No love last night...

I went out at 10pm and sat for close to a couple of hours, but started to nod off, since I put in a pretty heavy day yesterday.

Maybe tonight, if I can sneak a nap this afternoon. wink

Lacy, that's Bandit, my Standard Schnauzer.

He's a good hunter.

Yes, that bastard needs to die, I have one like him and another a bit smaller on trail cam on the mountain behind the house, went through 2142 trail cam pics late last night, hope I can quietly punch either or both with a bow or suppressed 10/22, 40gr solids in the ear will make quiet efficient peace ; ]
