I'm in the market for a light weight truck gun/ predator rifle. I'm wanting to stay with .223 Rem. Stainless with a synthetic stock is what I'm after, but I will consider a Stainless and Laminate wood combo aswell. Figure on pairing it with a Leupold Vx-3i 3.5-10x40. Any suggestions? I want something besides a "budget" rifle.

I’d try to find a used Kimber Montana.

What he said.

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

My T3x stainless has been fantastic. Easier to find than a Montana.

I have heard that the Tikka groups fall apart after a few hundred rounds.

This is what I did when I wanted a truck gun/walking lightweight predator rifle. The one I found is a .223.

Never owned one, but if I needed what you describe, one of the light SS Tikkas would get a hard look. Easy-peasy according to most accounts. If Howa ever brings the SS Minis to these shores, they’d make the short list too.

That’s funny as hell. I see what you did there, well done.

To the OP, look no further than a Tikka T3 Superlite. Stainless, fluted barrel, synthetic stock, 1-8” twist. Mine shoots everything from 50 grain Ballistic Tips to 75 grain ELD-M.

THIS

BIG TIME.

Excellent out of the box accuracy, will handle heavy bullets if you want to go that way...seems to like nearly everything.

Tikka, t3 or t3x lite SS. I’ve had a few and they’ve all been great.

I bought a synthetic stocked .223 Weatherby2 in what I thought was SS but it is some sort of silver Cerakote. It has a Zeiss Conquest 3.5X10 and shoots and handles very well. Sub minute with 62 grain handloads using BarnesTSX or Hornady HPBT bullets that used interchangeably are pretty close to same POI. Is a fine varmint rifle with these loads using Varget and has taken some pretty fair hogs on 200 yard shots. I've owned a couple of Savage 16 SS Weather Warriors that shot very accurately. Not sure if they come in .223.
