And of course the price of used ones doubled overnight........

I obviously have not been paying attention.
I guess that explains my "buddy" trying to talk be out of a silver VX-2 3-9X40 I have on a not-so-silver .243?
I bought the scope cheap on a Cabela's closeout and stuck it on a spare rifle just in case I had a relative come hunting.

Quite possibly. Check out some of the eBay listings to get a sense of what they’re selling for. Even IIc’s are going for $400 or more. May also explain why there are so many new posters in the classified section looking for silver Leupolds ...

I think over half of the Leupolds on Ebay are the Chinese knock off crap ones, some even being passed off as real ones for top dollar. I don't even look on Ebay for them anymore.

I have a Vari-x III 3.5-10 x 40 in silver that I am going to sell on here when I get a chance.
I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

It's kind of funny because I joined up on here looking to upgrade from my silver Vari-x II that I've had on a Browning Stainless A Bolt I go back around 1990. I never even noticed that Leupold quit making the silver scopes because I haven't been interested in getting another one. Maybe after seeing this thread I'll look to maybe get something back out of mine instead of just keeping in case I ever put it on a stainless .22.

Last one I looked at was up to $300 bid, I called Leupold with the serial number and it was fake. All I'm saying it is, don't trust anyone, check the series number. I'm stopping now, because I don't want to keep hijacking the OP.

Not to mention we are in the argumentative forum, where an occasional optics discussion may break out. Interesting experience that you noted. Was that a silver scope?
