My dentist actually uses one himself. I have not had a sleep study but the dental device was the first cheaper alt. to try. I am 15 lbs too heavy but certainly not obese. I know sleep apnea can be genetic and affect people regardless of their weight. I heard it explained that chronically not sleeping well contributes to weight gain so it may be hard to tell which one came first.
