I pick up my new Hellcat today! I will be taking the CC course at my local range next week. I have shot handguns all my life but never carried since the Army.
I have been watching lots of youtube videos about holsters. There are a LOT of them. I understand i will probably have to try a few different holsters but id rather not wind up with 50 holsters that didnt work out before i find The One. Some of these guys with videos could start a reality show for Holster Hoarders...
Currently looking at Hawg Holsters. They look good, American made, veteran owned but just a shot in the dark really.
Suggestions and experience appreciated. BTW i intend to get more training than just CCW. Might even join one of the practical pistol shoots.
Thanks

I carry my Glocks in Blackhawk Serpas. Good holster, good retention, comfortable, adjustable for cant and can be set up as a paddle of belt loop holster. I wear mine with the paddle. It is an outside the waistband holster. I've never found an IWB that was comfortable. As ironbender mentioned, there may be some at the class to try.

Vedder holsters. I use the Lighttuck for IWB and the Lightdraw for OWB. I've already got the drawer (actually 2 of them) full of holsters. I love their holsters.

I have spent many thousands of dollars over the years in search of the perfect CCW holster. By far, the finest model holster I have is the Milt Sparks Criterion IWB. Just make sure that you like the gun first, because it isn't cheap and you have to wait a long time for it. Here is a picture of one when it was new. I have worn that combination almost every day since the holster arrived approximately a year and a half ago, and it looks almost the same now as it did new. P.S. You will need a cheap holster for the gun while you wait.

As you note, there are a bazillion holster makers out there. Very few of them make a really crappy holster. Most of them make a pretty decent holster at a minimum. Holster preference is so personal that it's very difficult to get better advice from a stranger on the internet, than by figuring things out for yourself, hence the reason so many folks have so many extra holsters laying around. For example, you haven't stated if you intend to carry appendix IWB, three thirty IWB, or OWB. How is someone else supposed to figure that out for you?

Good luck finding any holster that has to be made. Most are running 12 - 24 weeks from date of order.

Thanks I've been carrying concealed for forty years (I can't believe it myself), and I've long since settled on El Paso Saddlery's C-Force IWB holsters with a good 1.5" leather gun belt from Galco. The Milt Sparks offerings are excellent as well, such as either their Executive Companion or Versa Max II. I used those models for many years as well, but prefer the C-Force since discovering it some years ago.

The HAWGS are excellent! I have three firearms utilizing them.
One handed draw and reholstering.
The XL clip is a superior attachment system.

Thanks What you do is decide how you want to carry this pistol and buy high quality holster made specially for it. Examples are: Galco, DeSantis, Bianchi,.......Buying cheap holsters is waste of time and money.

So far no buyers remorse. For method of carry, I''d start strong side IWB, and go from there. I'd stay away from Serpa's. Yes they have effective retention, but it can be difficult to release from the draw.

Maybe I'm just picky, but IMO, the vast majority of the holsters on the market are actually pretty crappy. Yeah, it's easy enough to find holsters that will hold the gun well (while still real easy to find those that don't). But holding the gun well while allowing reliably quick access and providing good concealment and comfort - not so much. Milt Sparks is still my go-to. I also like Galco and Desantis leather. I've tried a lot of plastic holsters and still haven't found one - other than the one I made myself - that makes the grade.
Lunatic fringe....we all know you're out there.

Yes they have effective retention, but it can be difficult to release from the draw. I have 3-4 IWB holsters - all from good companies like Rosen, Desantis etc., - and just cannot get 'em to feel comfortable.. I'm sure it's just me - but I'm much happier with the OWB holsters I have from Rosen, Sparks, EPS and Kimber.. Especially nice are the ones with straps/snaps that are easily worn and removed w/o having to remove the belt.. The Mitch Rosen Express holster I have for my Ruger SR9C is probably the most comfortable unit I have - and it keeps that pistol nice and snug against the body..
