You’re being way too modest.

Tell’em about your real varmint and bunny wabbit gun, your .460.

Don’t let that new, fancy .404 give your old standby a bad case of green eyed envy....

Admitting right up front that Elks is the authority............the big bore Verminator........... I have knocked a few groundhogs down with my .375 Weatherby. Right in the same, approximate neighborhood as the Taylor and the Jeff. Terminal performance is predictable...........yet lacks the wow factor that one might initially think. My Swift with a 50 grain Ballistic Tip will next to tear a big groundhog in two when shot in the midsection.

This one was just over the 300 yard mark. 250 grain SGK leaving at just under 3100 fps.

Many years ago I used both the 378 and 460 for spotlight shooting kangaroos and of course that also involves rabbits. A 378 on a dry cold winter night shootig from the back of a landcruiser is definitely somethinhg else to behold.:)

Nothing big, but a 400gr Partition at 2400 fps will do all i'll ever need doing on any animal anywhere with a soft point bullet.

I traded my .404J before I got to shoot critters. I'd had shoulder surgery and decided I didn't need it. Shoulder healed up fine, could probalby handle it now.

My BPCR 45-70, shooting the TSX 250 at 2,550 fps is a hammer. That bullet has a HUGE hp and is deadly.

I once shot a small pig thru the chest at a hundred yds. That bullet blew lung tissue out the other side. The far rib cage had fracture marks radiating from the exit hole, much like a broken window. The rib cage must have been pushed far enough out to cause those fractures. Weird looking. DRT, of course.

That same load blew blood and lung tissue out the far side of a WT chest, taking out the top of the heart. A fire hose trail of blood for 15 yds to the piled up deer.

Pretty amazing performance and pretty accurate. Those big bores can be more accurate than some may think.

Which is exactly why I deferred to you. The .375 Wby is plenty capable of taking a large groundhog down. But I'd hate to have to take a frontal brain shot to stop a charge. That's when I want YOU over my shoulder with your super-mega jackwabbit whacker. grin

I am thinking of taking my .404 out coyote calling. Some places I call the shot will be under 100 yards, perfect for iron sights.

Next year take my .460 and .450 Howell out for coyotes.

I've used my 416 Taylor on African game on a warthog, waterbuck, kudu, zebra, buffalo. Here it's taken an elk and lots of white tails. In Africa I used a 400gr Swift A Frame and here It's fed a diet of 325gr Hawk bullets. I love it you can eat right up to the hole.
