A few photos from an excursion earlier this fall. Took a new (to me) gun that I purchased out of the classifieds here on the fire, a Noble 12ga SxS. Nice, light, and easy to carry.....and thumps the birds pretty hard. I've been hunting with a 16ga almost exclusively for several years now, seems strange toting a "big" gun - even though this thing is closer, dimensionally, to my 16s. Since this trip, I've used the gun on a couple of pheasants - when I do my part correctly, is sure does also!

Is there anything cooler than a dog coming in with a bird in the mouth????

Yes, a 5 yr old female - Olive. That dog absolutely LIVES for birds - from breakfast to bedtime.

Great pics. I haven’t stumbled on any sharpies yet. Hopefully I do before they are too wild

I don't know what part of the state you are tromping around in, but I do most of my bird hunting south of 94, between Jamestown and Bismarck. Last year the area around Strasburg was good to me. This year it has been Ashley and Streeter. Also, been seeing birds in new areas, and in larger numbers in the normal haunts.

This is about the time of year that they flock up and become spookier than all get out, though. Any I collect after mid-October, I look at as a gift.....

I was out chasing them up and down hills around the little Missouri last week. A couple of flocks of 20 - 30 were hard to get close too, but we did manage to bust them up a little and get a few singles. Lots of walking for a few shots. They sure are tasty though.

Lotta eyes in a flock of 20 birds.....

They seems to like to tease you also. Seems as though they wait to flush until you are at about 60 yards. Or as soon as you open the car door.....
