I really like Askins Avenger style holsters. Several companies make them. Pick a good company, one listed above and go with it.

I've never really understood the obsession over holsters.

Any decent kydex will work just fine.

I wear a Black Scorpion now but it's kinda hard to find a bad one these days.

Great input. And no posts like "I'd rather have a sister in a whorehouse than a brother that carries in a _____".
Been looking at several of the suggestions. Will probably start out IWB @ 4 o'clock or so.
I think I might like leather better at least the side against my hide.

Thanks

El Paso Saddlery C-Force (Covert Force) IWB Holster. Kevin Gibson suggested it to me several years ago, and I gave it a try. After that, I stopped using Milt Sparks holsters and have been very happy with the C-Force since. Link To El Paso Saddlery

Call them and tell them the model gun, and they will make it, even if it's not listed at their website.

No matter whether IWB or OWB, buy a damn good belt. None are comfortable if the belt sags. I suggest Hanks belts but others might feel different. I have a premiere for dress, an extreme for every day carry and really like them both. Plus you can’t beat the 100 year guarantee.

I've been using the Galco SB2 1.5" leather gun belt for 30 years. I'm only on my third, and I've been using them everyday all that time.

So at 98 bucks minimum and you’ve bought 3 in 30 years. Hanks is 70.00 and here’s their guarantee

Hanks Belts are USA Made from the finest full grain leathers, never processed or bonded leather.

This results in a strong belt that will never crack apart, break, or stretch excessively. If it does, send it back and we will replace it with the original size ordered no questions asked for 100 years.

My extreme has 7 years everyday wear, still just fine and I only paid 45 bucks for it. If anything goes wrong other than a chicago screw which they send you free, I get a new belt for nothing even if it’s 20 years. They also have 15-20% off sales.

I still have my first one. It never broke. Just looks like crap from daily use over a decade or so.

Hanks are great, plus they have sales and sign up discounts. They even print errors of $15 off instead of 15%...and honor them.

Just like many things...ya can't have too many Hanks belts!

+1 on needing a good belt. I like the 5.11 products. I'm also a big fan of Kydex but there's no need to pay exorbitant prices for it. These guys are local to me and make a great product at a low price: https://krounds.com/product/traditional-iwb-kydex-holster/

I briefly carried in a Blackhawk Serpa until I became aware of three documented problems with it:
  • the locking mechanism can jam if a piece of gravel or other debris gets into it
  • the belt attachment point is weak enough that it breaks off easily
  • people tend to drag their trigger finger off of the locking mechanism and onto the trigger resulting in a negligent discharge that usually hits the shooter in the thigh

As a result, it has been banned by FLETC, LAPD, the US Army, the US Air Force, Front Site Training Center, and a number of high-end trainers including Larry Vickers and Kyle DeFoor. Some folks still use it but you don't have to be one of them.

I personally find that IWB is just not as comfortable for every day - all day carry. Thus my choice of a Galco Combat Master OWB

I've read all the complaints about the Serpas but have found none of them to be the case with mine. I wear one every day. I wore the one for my Glock 22 every day for five years without a problem and it is still fine. I switched to a model 48 because I wanted a lighter gun and have worn that gun every day in a Serpa for the past six months. I have rolled around in the gravel under vehicles, run my sawmill, busted brush and carried on duty with my Serpas and never had an issue with anything jamming the locking mechanism or with the attachment points. I wear mine with the paddles. I have worn mine in some extreme cold as well without any breakage.

As to the FOT (finger on trigger) issue, all I can say is I suspect anyone who is ending up FOT coming out of the holster with a Serpa is probably FOT coming out of any holster they use. Activating the holster release on a Serpa puts one's trigger finger perfectly aligned to be indexed on the slide, where it should be until needed. I'm sure the people generating those reports have vastly more experience than me, I think. I've carried mine daily for seven years now and never had a problem.

I'm just one voice in the matter but I think a lot of the bans were over reactions. A lot of people have shot themselves coming out of other brands of holsters. Honestly if a person cannot manipulate a Serpa without injury, or any other holster for that matter, perhaps they need a less challenging activity. Maybe one with crayons.

I have used Serpas for years and have never had, or seen any issues.

I think it's much ado about nothing.

For method of carry, I''d start strong side IWB, and go from there. I'd stay away from Serpa's. Yes they have effective retention, but it can be difficult to release from the draw.

I have 3-4 IWB holsters - all from good companies like Rosen, Desantis etc., - and just cannot get 'em to feel comfortable.. I'm sure it's just me - but I'm much happier with the OWB holsters I have from Rosen, Sparks, EPS and Kimber.. Especially nice are the ones with straps/snaps that are easily worn and removed w/o having to remove the belt.. The Mitch Rosen Express holster I have for my Ruger SR9C is probably the most comfortable unit I have - and it keeps that pistol nice and snug against the body..

Redneck, on my thin frame, I find most holster just add too much bulk for me.
I like a minimalist holster, something that covers the trigger and holds the gun.

Here's what I finally found that works for me, except I use the J clips. :

There is another option that has not been announced yet from the guys at Milt Sparks.

Full disclosure for anyone not familiar, I am friends with the owners. Though I don't get paid, or anything, I have been using their products for more than 25 years.

I was given a pre-production T&E sample to test run. I have been wearing it for a few months. In fact this last week, I brought it in to make a slight alteration to get a better firing grip on the pistol with my XL hands. In talking to my buddy who designed it, that had already been incorporated into the final version.

This is a straight drop outside the wasitband rig. That said, I have found it works perfectly fine for non optics handguns as well. I have been wearing mine as an OWB at the 3:30, almost as an appendix OWB so as to have optimal control for weapon retention, as well as for speed in the draw.

[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]

T&E samples were sent to myself, an instructor at Gunsite, and our mutual friend Ken Hackathorn. I am not sure who all beyond that.

I don't know what the name of the holster is, what they are going to sell for, or any of those kind of details. That said if you call the shop and ask about it, (ask for Jim) I am sure they will be able to hook you up.

Cheers.
