Anyone have one of these? Could be as simple as an electric heater that a Barbasol can sits in for a few minutes before shaving. If you have one, does it work well? I always wash my face with hot water before shaving but the warm shaving cream they use at the barber shop is pretty nice too. Thanks in advance.

Before I get into the shower I fill the sink with hot water and put the can in it. It's nice and warm by the time I get out of the shower.

I'll have to try that out!

Do you find this works better with cream or gel, or does it not matter much?

I shave in the shower. It's plenty warm.

Get you a mug, shave soap and a brush. Immensely better than the canned stuff.

Wet shave, cup of boiling water, put brush, and razor in. Shower, lather the brush with Castile soap, shave.

I use hot water with the soap and brush.
At least if you are using Barbasol, you are dealing with one of the
most American made products you can buy.

Look at Sterling Soap. They can get you on track to shave like
a man. (Did 50 years ago)

Anyone remember "The Hot One" from the 1970s? Can had some sort of heating element. Shave cream had a very distinctive (and not pleasant) odor.

I've got a commercial grade barber shop one from the oldest barber in the state. They do make a difference.
I'm slowly trying to learn how to use a straight razor for shaving and using the soap cup and brush method now. They are all ancient collectable heirlooms.
Lots of local history back when men would go to the barber for a man's haircut and shave. The straight razor was replaced with the disposable single use safety razor in the 80s.

I recalled that as soon as I saw the thread. The units provided heat by mixing hydrogen peroxide and other chemicals when activated.

Just giving a little bit of history that some of the young guys wouldn't know.

1950s-69s Culturally Men and women were easy to tell apart.

-70s It became popular for men to try their best to look feminine and women libbers to act and look masculine.

-80s AIDS was the popular threat, so sanitary barbers put away their awesome straight razors and that single edged shaving tradition of thousands of years just about died along with old fashioned Barbers.
Guys started coming to work, school and church with girlie boy looking hair styles. It wasn't just for hippies and rock stars anymore. They started bragging on their thirty$ hair styles from the beauticians.

Today, It is socially celebrated, and a popular legally promoted minority for "men" to act like flaming homosapiens. Hair cuts have mostly normalised for now, but bathrooms are for He, She, and It covers the other 37 genders.
🤔

That's what its come to Gus.

Back on topic........
The vintage shaving supplies like shaving cream heaters, etc. have some historical significance.

I don't remember the peroxide. That must've been a skin safe sanitizer flush.

I remember giving my dad for Christmas in 1970 something an electric machine that would heat shaving cream up, Don't remember the name, but I had to deliver a lot of newspapers to afford it!
