Flipping through the American Hunter yesterday, skimmed the review on a Trijicon Huron scope. 2.2 to 3.2 inches eye relief ....really? Have any of these engineers that design these things ever fired a kicker, prone or leaning over a log or a steep uphill angle. Or is it just me?

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I had emailed Trijicon about the Huron and Ascent back in April asking about this very thing. Here is the reply I received:

Quote
Thank you for your interest in Trijicon® products and for your inquiry. I forwarded your concern on to our Product Manager for review. He informed me that the recommended 2.2”-3.2” range is where everything is optically optimized. In actuality, the eye relief is greater than 3.2” with a clear sight picture. Unfortunately, theoretical or functional eye relief data is not yet available.

The Product Manager additionally informed me, however, that he has personally used these scopes on rifles chambered in 375 H&H and 45-70 Govt., with no issues and plenty of eye relief. We have also sent samples out to a group on a dangerous game hunt, who were all shooting 375s and 416s. There was no person in that group that experienced, or mentioned any concern about actual eye relief.

Hopefully this will help alleviate your concerns.

I just contacted the Product Manager's Executive Secretary, she told me he is out of the office right now having some stitches removed and will be back when the swelling goes down.

Now thats funny!!!!

I am looking at the 1-4 or 1-6 accupoint for a 375 H&H but I am also concerned about the eye relief numbers published for those scopes.

Even 3.2” seems short for a modern scope that could be used on higher re oiling rifles. Maybe those scopes are intended for use on AR-15 carbines ir similar type firearms?

I tend to shoot my AR “nose to charging handle” so a short eye relief optic is actually useful. But of course there’s virtually no recoil on a gas operated .223 rifle.
