My neighbor has a Winchester model 1890 Takedown in 22 Long with an octogon barrel. The barrel and receiver have the usual Winchester markings, serial number, and proof mark. The barrel has additional markings on it: a number, 4028 (way different that tang serial) on the right side midway down the barrel and also the following between the rear sight to the receiver: FAURE LE PAGE PARIS. Does anyone have a clue what the significance of that marking may be?

I’d suspect the gun has some connection to Faure Le Page a French firearms manufacturer established in Paris in 1717.

Yes, that is what I was able to find out as well. The big question is what did they do to it if anything, as it is just a plain jane model with an octagon barrel? Also why and how did they get it? The firm is a boutique and much like Abercrombie and Fitch, got away from weaponry and focused on high end accessories and clothing.
