I’m a fan of IWB carry. As a bit of context, I have a job where I have to fly on commercial flights while armed with a full-size handgun. Concealment is a big issue and I have to be able to draw and re-holster one-handed. I’ve tried lots of holster options, and have landed on a kydex IWB holster made by a company called Cascadia Concealment. It retains the gun well, doesn’t collapse, and is comfortable enough to fly or drive all day and it doesn’t bother me. They cost in the neighborhood of $50-$60. Wish I could figure out how to post pictures.

I'm sure the people generating those reports have vastly more experience than me, I think. I've carried mine daily for seven years now and never had a problem.

The problem seems to be with people who hook their trigger finger instead of pressing on the release with the finger pad with the finger remaining straight. You're right that they have a problem with any holster.

Call them and tell them the model gun, and they will make it, even if it's not listed at their website.

TRH, how do these do on reholster? I like the forward cant, makes it easier for me to conceal a 1911.

Every time I think about a Sparks the wait time turns me in another direction. Looks like these folks have a reasonable ship time.

That’s if you consider 18-24 weeks reasonable.

Mine reholsters one handed, no problem. The opening is heavily reinforced, so it stays open.

Well thanks all for the input. I ordered and have received a HAWG IWB holster. I bought both the standard clip and the XL clip.
I really like it so far. Wearing it around the house for a couple of days to see how it feels. Been trying 4 o'clock, appendix and even a little 10 o'clock cross draw.
I asked my wife to let me know if she ever sees it. So far it seems pretty easy to conceal and it isn't really uncomfortable.

I do think I will get a nice leather one down the road but this one will get me started. Thanks for all the input.

Now I need to learn to draw and fire efficiently and effectively. Then hope to god I never have to shoot anyone. I would if necessary but I'd really rather not.
As I was told "You better be in a fight for your life if you shoot someone because you are certainly going to be a fight for your life and freedom after"

Pic of the new rig w/o a concealment garment

I said 3:30 in my post, meant more 1:30 ish. (my clock was off crazy) Basically (for me) just in front of the hip bone over the front pants pocket. It is a straight drop, so a guy can position it wherever he likes. I normally wear most my holsters as straight drop/zero cant. I rarely mention it online about wearing a rig in what some might call AOWB.

When my hands are relaxed naturally at my sides, I like to be able to have some part of my arm/elbow come in physical contact with my holstered handgun, usually with the inside of my elbow contacting the base of my magazine, as this allows me to #1, always know precisely where my gun is, and #2, be set up to protect it from a weapon retention standpoint.

I used to be a weapons retention instructor, and I found this position to be very natural for fast presentation, safe secure reholster, and weapon retention in the event of a gun grab attempt, which I have had people go for my gun while fighting them on the job. AOWB may not be the ARFCOM flavor of the week, but it has always worked for me.

The holster I received for T&E is simply a straight drop, optic compatible. The end user can choose to wear it as best suits their needs. For me, I chose to roll with it a bit more forward than others might, as is my habit.

Being able to hide a full size, optics equipped G17 and carry it comfortably all day is not a bad deal. cool

My choice is an individual thing. I can change daily. I usually carry a 45 ACP of one kind or another. The P220 for a year and a half. A 45 Colt as backup after my magazines are depleted. I sometimes get tired of the weight and use a lightweight model, thus another holster. A 5" isn't going in the 3" holster! And all that is after you get settled on THE ONE for carry. It is part of the fun of owning guns though. Be Well, RZ.

Nice. What optic is that? And, if you don't mind, what do like/dislike about it?

I am set (nearly fifteen years now) on AIWB with kydex for all my autoloaders. It can be a little painful at times but I am totally sold on the protection and retention offered by that style of holster. Total package weight is low with striker fired polymer framed autos.
The M37 stays in a Mika pocket holster.

Trijicon RMR/LED RMR Type 2 3.25 MOA LED Red Dot Sight.

No real complaints about it at all. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. I went with an RMR over some of the cheaper versions since it was going on a carry gun. Simply put, I don't believe in trying to cut corners on such things. The RMRs have a solid reputation in the field, so that was the direction I went.

There is a learning curve trying to get used to shooting with an RDO as compared to irons, and I see no practical advantage, speed wise under 10 yards or so, but the further out, the advantage is significant. Plus when I originally picked it up, I was running security details where a single precise shot to protect an individual/small groups of people was preferable to multiple rounds, so the RDO was a tool that would make precise application easier. There is no question that they make precision shooting with a handgun easier for the majority of people.

This one has held up to a good bit of use and I have not seen any POA/POI issues, etc.

Full disclosure for anyone not familiar, I am friends with the owners. Though I don't get paid, or anything, I have been using their products for more than 25 years.

I was given a pre-production T&E sample to test run. I have been wearing it for a few months. In fact this last week, I brought it in to make a slight alteration to get a better firing grip on the pistol with my XL hands. In talking to my buddy who designed it, that had already been incorporated into the final version.

This is a straight drop outside the wasitband rig. That said, I have found it works perfectly fine for non optics handguns as well. I have been wearing mine as an OWB at the 3:30, almost as an appendix OWB so as to have optimal control for weapon retention, as well as for speed in the draw.

T&E samples were sent to myself, an instructor at Gunsite, and our mutual friend Ken Hackathorn. I am not sure who all beyond that.

I don't know what the name of the holster is, what they are going to sell for, or any of those kind of details. That said if you call the shop and ask about it, (ask for Jim) I am sure they will be able to hook you up.

Cheers.

I like the looks of that. Any idea about the timeline for availability?

They are not on the website yet (that I know of), but I would bet you can just call and ask for the new optics ready holster. Or optics cut holster. It's a super easy to work with crew, so ordering one should be no big deal.

If you do order tomorrow and talk to someone before I have a chance to call my buddy (I had planned on calling him sometime tomorrow anyways) let us know what the name of the holster is. grin. smile

I have had people asking me today, and I have just been calling it the optics cut holster. Some of their rigs are initials like BN for Bruce Nelson, or PMK for Pam Kanaly (the former owners wife), so it might be a letter combo, or something.

For daily casual wear the Simply Rugged pancake holster is my fav for OWB. For IWB is by far the Milt Sparks Summer Special. For IWB i buy my pants one size larger (Instead of a 36 waist get a 38). The Milt Sparks is outstanding quality and very snug against my side. I wear my 3" 686+ daily IWB in the Milt Sparks. I also have one for my Glock 17 and it carries easily under an untucked shirt (I'm retired so always casual attire). A good GUN BELT is what you need, not flimsy dress belts for casual wear.
