Last weekend went to the range for the sighting in of the Savage 220 bolt action 20 gage slug gun. Always use the 2 3/4 Remington Accutips. As in the last 6 years, it was dead on. The Nikon slug hunter scope hasn't needed to be touched since first sight in in 2014. Go to 50 yards- bullzeye. Go to 100 yards, bulzeye. This gun is unconsciously accurate. Got to wait till November 15th to let the air out of something to fill the freezer. I firmly believe you can spend what ever amount you want, and at the range, my Savage 220 will be handing the second place trophy to the competition. The Nikon slug hunter scope with ballistic reticle is also dammmm hard to beat. Only 3 more weeks.....only 3 more weeks.......only 3 more weeks......

Funny how that works. Reports like this do make you take pause and reconsider the whole situation. Thanks

Good! We need some more entries in the 2020-2021 Savage kill post. I am trying. Here's what walked up to my truck while I was waiting for my buddy to come out of the woods. 10' off the truck bumper eating the berries off the poison oak. They mock me.

My cousins friend must have that same 220 package, his has the Nikon scope also. That thing is just freaky accurate. Chris brought his to camp new in box, got it sighted in and started vaporizing golf balls at 50 yards. Kind of like Gary shooting fly's off sugar cubs with his Ballard at 100 yards, but that's another story.

Both her little ones were nubbin bucks. I could see the hair bulging on their pointy little heads. I will make them pay. Maybe not this year or the next two after that, but they will pay dearly.

Oldotter, we need to pass the hat for one of those little video cameras that you wear on your head so we can watch you in real time as you deflate a deer with that thing!

I have a couple similar rigs. The 1954-vintage M70 .30-06 with plain vanilla Leupold Vari-X II 3-9 hasn't wandered off zero for a few years now. Had it out on Friday and it put its 5 shot group of 1" exactly 2" high at 100- exactly where it did last year and the year before that. Back into the case it went.
Another one which exhibits boring consistency is one of my Ruger #1A's, the 6.5x55 with Leupold 1.5-5x. Same thing every time I unholster it, 2" high at 100 (to put the 130gr Berger 8" low at 300). (3 shots subtend 1/2" on average. 4th and 5th shots start to walk straight up as the barrel heats up. That's ok, it's a single shot, and 4th and 5th shots at a deer would be Hail Mary shots anyway.)
Guess which two will get to go to the venue this year where cross-hay field shots will be likely. None of my Savages are scoped so they're out of the running- they're tools for a different purpose.

Hitting critters with the truck isn't a good idea. An antelope took out the left headlight on the battered Ram.

One of the tastiest critters I ever ate was delivered to my driveway via an early 80's Chrysler Imperial. Hit the big doe in the neck and it died instantly I was on the couch napping after a long and nasty Muzzleloading stalk in early December eve. For the use of my phone I got to keep the deer. God is Great! Venison is Tasty.
Good luck with that 220 Double OT.
