My first 2 years of college were in Bottineau. Good people.
Always liked the town and country. Pretty good hunting, especially for waterfowl and deer in the Souris River country.

Bottineau? There is a town in ND with that name. Interesting . It was named after him, Pierre Bottineau, and the County also, and countless buildings and places. Bottineau was founded in 1883 as Oak Creek as a customs station and an overnight stagecoach stop. The town name was changed to Bottineau in 1884 in honor of Pierre Bottineau (c.1814–1895), a Métis pioneer, hunter, and trapper who became a successful land speculator. The town was originally located about 1½ miles (2½ km) north of its current location. The entire town was moved south in 1887 to where the Great Northern Railway was installing new tracks. There is a book called The Legend of Pierre Bottineau and the Red River Trail written by Ted Stone. His life was an incredible tale, one that weathered, challenged, and took the lives of many brave men. God Rest their souls, they made America great right from the beginning, a history, and a legacy, to be so very proud of then, now, and always. I pray Americans will never go backwards, only forward, and take the deep history and honour of these men and women, and keep those that might threaten it or change it towards never ending destruction, out of places, and positions of power, so that the legacy of those that came before, and died as true Americans, would never be ashamed and feel sorrow for what America could become should further damage be done in the name of the USA. God Bless You All. Lynn

Lynn A real genuine badass, Now I know where you get your spunk from. A great story I'm glad you posted it. This country was founded and tamed by real men and true badasses. The wimps and snowflakes we have today will amount to nothing their entire lives,it really is depressing to watch so it's refreshing to see stories such as this.

Whats that a friggin Mauser? Deutschland Uber Alles! Nothing like a WWII German soldier to exemplify the power of blind nationalism! A force to be reckoned with, no doubt. “You also had some very fine people on both sides”

Great thread. I happen to have been born and raised in Bottineau. I live in the Turtles Mountains five miles from town. I will likely die here. My roots are similar to yours. I live on 160 acres of which 80 were purchased by my grandfather in the late 1800s. He was Swede and Finn. Oofff day! Edk

Very powerful Miss Lynn, thanks for posting that. I hope you don't mind - I'm going to be sharing that one with several people I care about.
Quick story, hope it's not considered a hijack: I have a few patriotic "bumper stickers" attached to the headache rack of my old Ford F-250, and I've posted a couple of pics of them here. I get lots of reactions, and the vast majority are honking, waving, and big thumbs up. Once in a while though I get a middle finger salute. So anywhoo - late Friday afternoon I'm sitting at a red light and a rice-burner type of car pulls up next to me in the left-hand turn lane, also waiting for the light to change. It's a pleasant evening, I have my drivers' side window down, and I'm just minding my own business listening to Michael Berry on talk show radio. I notice the rice-burners' passenger side window going down, but there's only the driver in the car. He's probably in his late teens, or real early twenties at most. He leans over and says "I like your bumper stickers man! I really love this country too." I tell you what, I damn near had tears in my eyes when that light turned green. I would love to talk to that young man some more. Never have I been so proud to be an American. (Even though I'm embarrassed to death to be known as an Oregonian.) It's good to know that generation is not completely indoctrinated, and appreciates what the flag, patriotism, and our country are all about.

I know a few young ones that are going to vote for Trump, they will carry this nation into the next generation the rest of them will amount to schit their entire lives.
