I had to replace a 1/2 mile of fence because of that last year.

Was having to put new barb wire to fix it... 100 or so foot at a time. Cattle would just go to the next weak spot.

Got old. So I replaced that whole stretch. frown

The barbwire is reverting to iron ore.

I fixed some that was probably that age a few years back on property we purchased. "fixed" involved pulling the old wire out, dozer over the 10 foot wide fence line of saplings/briars, new posts and new wire. Fixed it good.

Ed, I was building fence in 62. I'll look at a rotted off post, and think, why I just built that fence, 50 years ago! laugh

It’s often typed and said thataway. Same for (ir)regardless!

Redundancy is especially good when done repeatedly.

Can’t abide haphazard fencing, I’m big on new and hell for stout. But I was a little taken aback when I walked a fence line during hunting season and realized it was an 8 strand fence....... wondered if they were trying to fence the mice out.. wink.

I run 6 strands of barb wire with high tensile electric below the lowest barb wire and between the lowest and second barb wire, so I'm 8 strands as well. ...we're running goats (with cattle) which is about like trying to keep mice in/out..... The barb wire slows 'em down, the electric turns 'em around....

We moved to goats after much of the fencing had already been done with barb wire. The addition of electric to it was the easiest way to make it work for goats. In the future I may try only high tensile for cross fencing or new land.

I'm intrigued by the newer high tensile stuff. Seems to do very well, will have to try it on the next cross fence.

Old black wire....no tight twists or sharp bends, and easy when you stretch it. Don't crimp it with a tight staple either!
