Growing up sucks.

For a number of reasons I'm considering selling my 1996 F-250 7.3L Crew Cab. It's been my hunting and fishing rig for 3 solid years and has been a blast. Living in the city, now having to drive a lot more for work and other ventures have raised more reasons for something more (gags a little) car-like....

If any of you CampFire folks are in the market for a solid, old body style Ford, please let me know. I'd be willing to meet around the Puget Sound area.

250,100 miles (as of duck scouting yesterday)
05+ Axle Replacement (for better handling, and braking I swapped the axles with a 2009 F-350 using a RYD 05+ Kit. No more 47 point turns on logging roads and disc brakes all around)
Engine is all stock, no chips, boosts, exhaust brakes
E4OD has 100,000 miles, factory replacement at dealer
2nd owner. First owner was the foreman mechanic for a logging operation on the Olympic Peninsula, so it's never seen road salt and has been well cared for
New wheels and tires last year
new roof rack (adrian steel holds as much as the bed rails are rated for...)
New Linex in the bed

I hunted/camped this past Friday-Saturday in 20 degree weather at 5000 ft. Hiked back to the truck and my Nalgene water bottle was frozen solid. The truck started right up

Keep the truck and buy a little schit box to commute in. It won't take long to want it back if you sell it.

That's kind of my feeling. If it's a good truck, any 'upgrade' is likely a step down.

Definitely buy a Corolla. That's the cheapest A to B vehicle you can buy. You won't have to put any money into it to keep it running and they're real easy on gas.

Is that the plan 7.3? Its not the Powerstroke is it? I had a 1993 7.3 and took it Elk hunting in Colorado. Pulling a 16 ft trailer with three 4 wheelers on it. Going up Rabbit ear pass outside of Steamboat spring the fastest I could get it up to was 28 MPH. Them 7.3 wont pull a setting hen off a nest. Two yrs later I bought a new 1999 Superduty with 7.3 Powerstroke. I could have went over the top of Rabbit Ear pass 100 mph if I wanted.

It’s the 7.3 powerstroke. Haven’t shackled up at hens, but I often forget I’m towing my fishing raf

Nice truck, I have a 95 and a97 7.3 power stroke five speed trucks,I would be interested in the truck but I just picked up that 95. That is a sweet truck and if properly maintained will last many more miles. Good luck with your sale. Post some more picks up if you can I love checking out those old girls

My vote is with the keep the truck and buy a comuter for every day to work outfit. The thing is you got it for your outdoor needs. If you end up doing that again you'll have a lot more into the next one than your getting for the old one. Cheap way out is to go buy a commuter and keep the truck for only when you need it. MB

I feel honored to have so much feedback on the topic. Sounds like some of you have let a rig go an then missed it.

Having three vehicles (my wife has one and has laid claim to the single driveway spot) in the city is no fun, but you're right. The PIA of having to jockey them around is likely worth it to have a dependable truck on hand when you need it.

Thanks for those photos creekchub.... Short bed? Even more desirable, very nice truck! Keep your eyes on your fenders, Fender flares have a tendency to have rust issues, not saying that yours does just keep your eye on it. I drill holes in the inside Of the fender and spray in anti-rust spray that Works fantastic! OBS is my favorite style. I have a 95 F350 standard cab 7.3 with 98,000 original miles :-) I just recently converted to a five speed you would never know it unless you looked at the Vin number :-) I just recently, two weeks ago picked up a 95 F350 crew cab dully 7.3 Five speed 126,000 original miles excellent shape. I have a few more older diesels, That are all in excellent condition.I’m sort of Kinda maxed out right now :-) If you could do it, keep it and get it under cover. Pick yourself up a FWC, hallmark, outfitter, pop-up camper and hit the road :-) If you still have the truck six months from now get in touch with me. Good luck in whatever decision you make. Tom

The truck is pretty much depreciated as much as it’s going to, so unless you really need the 12k, those old 7.3’s will be in high demand. We took one to Colorado elk hunting pulling a trailer and I don’t remember it even ever down shifting going through those mountains. The torque of that engine was amazing. You need to ask yourself if you are going to change your lifestyle so drastically now that you are an urban guy? I keep a 4x4 truck in the garage up north just to have one when I need one.

Torque and HP are much higher in the new turbo diesels.

Still my favorite body style of all Ford trucks - followed closely by the early '70's models. Sure miss my '92 F-150 at times.

I owe you an update: I sold it...

It sucks. no getting around it. Spent a lot of time and money in the truck.

Met a bunch of folks over the phone and in person, but the guy I sold it to (at asking price), said he wouldn't sell it to anyone but me with a solid handshake. This is his 4th OBS in his collection, so I know it's in good hands and stored undercover.

If we had a dollar for all of the guns, trucks and various objects we let go along the way, that we wish we could have back, we'd all have a stack of bills.

But, I'm not too discouraged. Bought better boots with some of the proceeds and will out-hike the other guys from more accessible trailheads.

Good for you, I’m glad you got your asking price for it, it is a nice truck. I have two myself, if the truck came upIn February I would’ve flown out and drove it back To PA. The new owner has a good truck.big key to get them undercover and don’t use them in the salt,Mine are Put away for the winter :-)
