The Old Goat got to christen his new 280 with a 160 Accubond.... I think he feels 10 years younger going from a 10+ lb 300 Win to the 7lb 280... Makes a big difference when you're hoofing it all day long.

That's Great for him. (happy icon) Don't tell him that ALL 300s DON'T weigh 10+ lbs. There are other rifles not that heavy. Obviously the 280 worked ! Amazing ain't it ! Jerry

Oh yeah, hard to beat the 270/280 really. The 280 is pretty darned good with the bullets available to it nowadays. The 270 ain’t never a slouch.

Orygun Blacktail. He popped up in a thicket and all I could see was his head and antlers. Shot him just under the chin. Ranged him at 69 yards after the fact. I love hunting these guys, but boy can it be humbling......... Kimber Hunter 6.5 CM. Hornaday 129 IL.

My antelope buck for 2020. Nothing big, but it was a fun stalk. 1 shot with my old M1 and down he went. 237 yards, which is not hard to do with a good M1, but I had hoped to get real close like I have the last few years. He saw me, stood up from his bed in the sage and faced me trying to see what I was. So I was not getting any closer. I had to either let him go (almost did) or take the shot, but I have not been paid in a while and money is a bit tight so I though I better end the season so I didn't have to buy gas to drive over there again. I didn't get a tag for any area close to my home and had to drive about 110 miles to get to the area I drew. Maybe I should have let him go because the paycheck came today, but I didn't know it at the time (3 days ago ---- on Tuesday) M1 2020 Buck 2 by .com/photos/156296479N08/]Steve Zihn, on [bleep] My wife and I just finished eating his heart for dinner, which I missed. I tried to heart shoot him, but the bullet entered about 3" to the left of center and missed the heart. Didn't matter, and he fell instantly as the bullet went clear through him lengthwise. Sorry for exhuming your posting but I like it a lot to see that open sight guns can be used effectively up to 200 yards and more on big game. When was your Garand made? What kind of ammo did you use? Factory, handload?

👍 nice! A bigger first bull than my little spike, that’s for sure. What did ya whack him with?

Those Horns look big to my inexperienced goat eye. Tall to say the least.

Went on my first mule deer hunt. Picked what I thought was the best unit for a non-res with 2-pts and went after it solo. Had a blast, passed up lots of forkies in several days of hunting, then the snow hit and everything changed. Saw this fella while heading down to the truck. Spent the morning hiking and glassing in earnest. Finally finished grinding/packaging meat yesterday. Some good eats, for sure. 270 with 129 LRX, the streamlined profile definitely aided on the 40 yd shot 😉
