Saw one landed late last summer in SW Wisconsin. Wasn't that colorful

Is that photo "enhanced" or are they really that dramatically colored?

Guess it could be like the color change in male spawning Brookies.

Do they reproduce?

They are sterile...

Wisconsin stocked them in years past, but stopped for whatever reason.

They can occur in any water that holds both browns and brookies, IIRC.

Not all tigers are this vibrant, but many of the males (or alleged males, they are sterile) do get really nice colors and patterns on them. Catching tigers has become my new obsession as we didn't have any tigers in Montana and when I moved a little over a year ago catching tigers was a top priority. The thing I really enjoy about them is no two are alike. Each one is quite different. Here is another one for example to illustrate what I mean. Very different pattern and even coloration on this one than the one posted above. It's just crazy how pretty these brooke/brown trout hybrids are. They also fight really good and are a blast to catch!

Ive caught Tigers in Wyoming.....but dont know where else they are.

I live in the better half of Utah.

How do they eat? Love the colors on them.

I was guessing Utah, because Utah plants a lot of tiger trout often to help control trash fish. I've caught a bunch of them, but I've never seen them so colored up. I've caught them in just two lakes in Utah, Panguitch Lake and a much smaller lake in nothern part of Utah not far from Evanston,Wy.

I've caught them in one lake in northern Washington.

Catch them up to 19” or so in NE PA. I struggle posting here but the OP is right that no two alike. Most are stocked here but some wilds. My now 6 yo has the house record catching 2 19” in two casts before running off to play. Think she was 4 but may have just turned 5. They had orange bellies and big ole hook jaw/kipes. Almost shaped like a river caught Laker.

Saw a giant hold-over in a private lake/pond breaking the surface last spring eating little bass. Crazy but I later hooked one that spooled my 4 lbs test then popped the hook. I learned quickly that Flouro leaders needs to be lubed or wetted when tying. My brother then hooked a true monster brown that would likely break 13-15 lbs. He had it on a 5’ UL. Thing swam around like it wasn’t hooked then he managed to get it up to the dock. It saw the net and said “nope” spooled him out twice before the hook pulled out. It was a largish treble so surprised it pulled free. May have been a tiger as they hit hard, aggressive like a Brookie, grow faster than a brown I’ve heard/read, and can tolerate warm ups. I’m betting some held over this year too. Summer wasn’t hot at all just a little dry.

I’ll always be a ‘Bow guy but Tigers are a close second. Here in PA we get wild and stocked Browns, Brookies(biggest wild was 14” biggest stocked was 19”, 8 yo’s holdover was over 2 lbs), goldens, ‘bows (river spawn and stocked), wild and stocked Tigers, and lake run browns and Lakers.

The vibrant colors are beautiful. We’ve been fortunate that the private place gets really colorful healthy fish and a small trib stocked for a youth derby and state stocked for everyone had real colorful fish as well. The large Brookies this year even hit top water. The larger Brookies stocked didn’t have the color like others. The looked like the hybrids but I counted the internals and nope just Brookies. Coloration, Shape, and structure you’d swear they were hybrids though. I’m not aware of any stocking of hybrids anymore but wouldn’t surprise me either.

Splakes are the hybrids and they can get tiger marks but most I’ve seen pics of have a laker coloration almost.

Beautiful fish. They stocked them in the White River below Bull Shoals this year. I haven't caught one yet.

I fish the white every year in late February, (Gastons) I’ll be looking forward to hooking one should I be so lucky.
