What's the market value on the Savage 24V-A?

Pretty good condition, bluing is perfect, no dents/dings on stock.

Highest one I saw on GunsInternational was $925, and who knows how long that's been listed.

Whoa Nelly. We're firing out values and I don't see a Ga/Cal listed. Fireball hit it first - whut's the borings?

$1200?? Jeez I have one with 2 bbl sets, just as nice as that I would ship for half of that.

I'm pretty sure the letter after the hypen determines the caliber.

So -A would be 222/20 gauge.

There's no way in hell that this is worth $1200, I'm certain Hubert is yanking your chain.

Searches on gunsInternational yielded 2 of the 24V-A, one at $925 and $625. Gunbroker has several ranging from $500 to upper $600's.

But it appears even at the low range prices, they are not selling.

I sold a 24V-A a year or so back--little different looking wood-maybe just a tad less nice than yours for 350
I'd say 400 to 425 would be a fair market value--just my opinion

None of them are worth more than $500.00 - I have a 20/30WCF and While it has a limited utility, it will never have $1200.00 worth of utility.

That is a very clean one with very nice wood, and doesn't look like it's been fired much. No cracks in the wood at the tang either.

The V indicates it's a centerfire but the A doesn't designate caliber, a V A is simply an early model V thats how the centerfires were first designated.

Caliber would definitely have a lot to do with determining the price.

Being an early model, it's prolly either a 222 Remington, or a 30-30. Savage first produced the 24V in 1967 and only in 222 Remington and in 1968 it has a list price of 81 dollars. The 222 was also produced EVERY year the 24V was made up until about 1989 when Savage went into Chapter 11, so the 222 is the most common of the 24V's hence lower value.

What caliber is it? It is either 222 or 30-30 because 1972 was the last year they produced the small extra piece of checkering up at the pistol grip area and 1972 was the year the 30-30 was first introduced, and only other caliber at that time was the 222. So if it's a 222 it's somewhere between 1967 and 1972 manufacture and if it's a 30-30 it's 1972 vintage.

I think that Savage dropped the "24V" model identifier when they changed the configuration from a polished finish with walnut to a matte finish with synthetic and added the 12 gauge option. Not sure what year that was, maybe starting in 1984.

Yes, they actually did it JUST before they went to the synthetic configuration. I have one in 30-30 over 12, hardwood furniture, matte finish, screw in choke, and the scroll work on the receiver identical to the 24F scroll work, also has the cross bar safety. I spoke to an old gent at the savage factory about this gun years ago, and he pretty much confirmed what I thought. So this gun just says Savage 24 on the reciever (no V) on the gun anywhere, yet the original box with matching serial nunber is labeled Savage 24V.

A really pristine one in 222 will probably sell for between $450-$525 on auction, but you'd have to be careful auctioning it, I'd have a reserve price cause 222's aren't scarce, so not the demand as for some other calibers like the 357 Maximum or 22 Hornet.

What you'd need to find to get that price is a buyer looking for a good clean example of a 222 24V.

Do a 'completed' search for 'savage 24 222' on Gunbroker, and I think you'll see what I mean.

I have a 24F in 223/20 that has the matte finish and synthetic stock/forearm, # F44135x. I don' really care for it, as the stock doesn't have a very high comb and I get "jaw weld" rather than cheek weld. If you like Savage 24s, Marshall Staton wrote the best write up that I've read on them in one of the forums at www.beartoothbullets.com.

My most interesting 24 is a 24V Series D in 223/20, # RD113x

Am looking to sell a 24V Series D in 357Mag/20, #D33438x, for $600 as par of my "fund the family" sale.

I bought a .222 / 20 gauge last year in pretty good shape for about $400-$425. I don't remember exactly. It's not perfect but nice. The same way I likes my womens. Mounted a 3x straight tube Weaver and it is a very good shooter. Really surprised me. Has enough eye relief that it is ok with the shotgun barrel. Don't remember the letter designation after the 24 either. Looked quite a while to find one for the price.
