One of very few Piggly Wiggly's that has a Hot Deli happens to be right near me. IMO, hands down the best $7.00 lunch anywhere. Entrees vary daily, usually two of them but fried chicken is made everyday.
What we got here is fried chicken, mac and cheese, collards and cornbread.

Looks good, I've heard of the chain, never been within a hundred miles of one store.

Plenty around these parts. I only know of two that have the Hot lunch's however. The one I go to is a small one, independent owner. They are all about service there. Impossible to shop without a couple-three folks asking if they can help you with whatever. Also do a stellar job of getting you out of the store when done shopping. They also cling to the Old School habit of carrying your groceries to the car and even open the car door for ya!
All Piggly's also have butchers cutting meat in store every day.

Every one I have seen is. There are four within about 20 miles of me here in Eastern NC.

Tidbit: PW was the first grocery store to offer shopping carts, self-serve from the shelf, and a dedicated checkout line.

Anyone else remember the Hoot (Red) Owl Grocery Stores?

Minnesota chain. Used to have to cross the bridge over the Des Moines, swing past the Hoot Owl store, and head up the hill to the races at Jackson.

We had a Red Owl in my home town growing up. They got bought out by Super Value.

Kinston?
Kings BBQ or the wobbly hog........hard to decide. When I was still working Kings got the nod so I could get out of the truck for a few minutes.
Byrd's for breakfast, the million dollar biscuit!

That's all I miss about the job I had, so many choices for breakfast and lunch. Then chinese lung funk plague come along and screwed it all up. I said to hell with it and retired a year before I planned.

If they would merge with HEB in Texas, they could call the new stores “Wiggly Butts”.

Don't know about elsewhere in the country but in Wisconsin it is amazing how good of fried chicken you can get at a lot of gas station/ convenience stores. And it is cheap. Enough beef jerky to fill you up will cost you way more than a chicken dinner. One our big chains is Kwik Trip. Great fried chicken and whole roasted birds as well.

Kwik Trip/Kwik Star has very good chicken, as well as a lot of other food choices that aren't bad either.
