A Canadian friend says that. I have an idea what it means, anyone know why?

That's what we always took it to mean. If something had the bun, it was finished. Broken. No longer functioning.

But, as I think that Richard was asking, from whence came "the bun"?

I've no idea where the expression came from. It likely started in the dim times, before electricity, running water and pay toilets.

I would like to add this extraneous tidbit.

Until I posted this, no mention was made in this thread of COVID, the US election or extraterrestrials.

Well Steve, here in the US we've 'had the bun' with losing the election, that was caused by the virus, and extrasrrestrials voting by mail. laugh

Yes. We're much like the native indians back in the 1600s.

Until the extraterrestrials arrived, we never suffered from COVID or elections.

The link referred ro being the same as having had the biscuit which is a reference to having a Catholic priest administer the last rights -- the "host" being the biscuit. But I ain't no Catholic. grin

Yeah, we finally got some use out of those lightening strikes. I hated when they scared the pack Brontosauris.
